Job Summary:

The Commodity Manager is responsible for the overall development and execution of commodity and cost reduction strategies for assigned commodities. This position has responsibility for multiple locations and commodities, and applies tools such as reverse auctions, leveraging, VA/VE, and global sourcing to effectively drive cost out of the supply chain. This position will lead all aspects of and run assigned commodities on a Ridge Tool corporation, worldwide basis, will control costs through the development of cost-effective, efficient, high-quality, lean initiatives, and will develop contracts, using worldwide volumes where possible.

In this Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
  • Develop and implement mid & long-term supplier strategies, model supplier costs, supplier opportunity assessments and interpret supplier financial analyses.
  • Develop high-efficiency, high-quality domestic and/or global sources of supply for materials, products, and services, focusing on supply base consolidation.
  • Lead commodity spending using dedicated data management systems, processes, and databases. Focus on risk, price, quality, delivery, supply chain efficiency (Lean Supply Chain), ROTC, and trade working capital.
  • Lead mid & long-term agreements with best-in-class price, payment terms, quality, and delivery terms in compliance with policies and procedures
  • Develop and maintain long-term supplier relationships that deliver competitive advantages including lowest total cost, highest quality products, and excellent customer service.
  • Perform root cause analysis of Supplier delivery/quality issues and implements corrective actions through supplier improvement plans

  • For This Role, You Will Need:
  • Able to manage a cross-functional team, including suppliers, to efficiently implement commodity strategies, cost savings initiatives, or transition a source of supply.
  • Possess and maintain a solid working knowledge of essential commodity trends including industry trends, cost drivers, global pricing, material lead times, and technical/manufacturing processes primarily for the Machined Parts Commodity
  • Must be able to travel local and international up to 20% to support domestic initiatives


Preferred Qualifications that Set You Apart:
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Operations or another related field.
  • 5+ years of procurement experience in a high-paced, multi-location environment.
  • Tech savvy, with emphasis on Word, Excel, PowerPoint, JDE/SAP/QlikView, Portal, and Team Center.
  • Strong project management and team leadership skills with the ability to develop strong support for change with all levels of internal and external organizations.
  • Dedicated, results oriented, and motivated to work effectively without direct supervision.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of selected commodities.
  • Knowledge of purchasing systems and principles including experience with low-cost country sourcing, reverse auctions, VA/VE, and other leveraging tools.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Analytical abilities coupled with intellectual curiosity for root cause and countermeasures.
  • Critical thinking and ability to be forward looking, envision the potential and long-term goals
