We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented piping designer to support the layout, design, and development of piping systems in a dynamic chemical plant environment. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of industrial piping standards, process equipment, and safety requirements. They will collaborate with engineers and project teams to ensure accurate and efficient piping solutions that align with production and regulatory needs.

Essential Functions
  • Reports To: (position) Engineering ManagerStrong participation in decision making & determining solution for design and engineering issues.
  • Assist project manager in developing bids, proposals, scopes of work, scope changes, correspondence, estimates, schedules, material list, design concepts, design drawings and other project documentation per corporate guidelines.
  • Responsible for field surveying and designing new pipe or replacement piping for capital projects and maintenance work.
  • Developing Piping & Instrument Diagrams, Piping 3D models, Piping Plans & Sections, Piping Isometrics, and Piping Bills of Materials Qualifications.
  • Generates equipment arrangements and piping routing from concept and P&ID's.
  • Assist with development of piping specifications and standards.
  • Preparation of RFQ (Request for quotation), Bid evaluations.
  • Maintain project files and documentation.
  • Ensures adequate flexibility in critical piping systems.
  • Provide technical assistance and coordination with multiple disciplines for day-to-day design issues.
  • Prepare structural and concrete drawings from preliminary sketches and layouts supplied by engineers.
  • Perform basic 3D modeling of structures and foundations.
  • This position requires frequent outdoor field work for planning designs or monitoring the progress of projects. This may include climbing stairs/ladders and safely entering process equipment for inspections.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned, including but not limited to continuously growing in alignment with the Company's core values, competencies, and skills.
Education Qualifications
  • Required Associate's Degree Associate degree or technical certification in piping design or related field.

Experience Qualifications
  • Required 1+ years Experience in piping design, preferably within chemical or industrial field settings.
  • Preferred 5+ years 5-8 years of experience in piping design, preferably within chemical or industrial field settings.

Skills and Abilities
  • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, CadWorx, and Isogen.
  • Strong knowledge of piping specifications, materials, and routing practices.
  • Chemical plant, refinery and heavy industrial piping, civil structural experience.
  • Familiarity with process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Fostering unity in diverse groups.
  • Self starter.
  • Strong Interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, safety-driven environment.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands
  • Walking. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long periods of time, up to 12 hours per day.
  • Sitting. Working from a seated position for up to 12 hours per day.
  • Climbing. Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, ramps and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms one to two times per day.
  • Balancing. Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing or crouching on narrow or slippery surfaces.
  • Stooping. Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
  • Kneeling. Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
  • Crouching. Bending the body downward and forward by bending legs and spine.
  • Reaching. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Pushing. Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force, exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force consistently to move objects forward, downward or outward.
  • Pulling. Using upper extremities to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force consistently to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Lifting. Raising objects up to 25 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 15 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds consistently from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position.
  • Grasping. Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  • Possible subject to environmental conditions. Activities could occur inside and outside.
  • Subject to extreme heat. Temperatures above 100 for periods of more than one hour.
  • Subject to vibration. Exposure to movements of the extremities or whole body. Operate/drive utility vehicle.
  • Subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE for tasks as required. FRC uniform, hard hat, safety toe work boots, safety glasses, gloves etc.
