Purpose
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong geoscience background and a drive to address energy-related research challenges in the Greater Permian Basin region. This position will support the State of Texas Advanced Resource Recovery (STARR) program at the Bureau of Economic Geology (BEG). The successful applicant will perform subsurface and surface geologic characterization of Pennsylvanian strata to assess the evolution of siliciclastic, carbonate, and/or mixed depositional systems, with particular emphasis on generating research results that address challenges faced by oil and gas operators seeking to expand production in the Eastern Shelf region. The Postdoctoral Researcher will join a multidisciplinary team of researchers and students and will be responsible for executing laboratory and field-based research designed by the team to address relevant research questions. The Postdoc is expected to integrate geological data and observations with biostratigraphy, geochemistry, engineering, geophysics, and data science subdisciplines to assist in reservoir characterization. The Postdoc is expected to possess a strong background in siliciclastic and/or carbonate sedimentology including outcrop and/or subsurface characterization. Preferred applicants will have research experience in icehouse settings with an understanding of glacioeustatic cyclicity, sequence stratigraphy, fluvial to shelfal marine sedimentology, basin analysis, and multidisciplinary data analysis workflows.
Responsibilities
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in geology, geophysics, or a related field. Strong understanding of outcrop and subsurface geology, with an emphasis on the sedimentology and stratigraphy of siliciclastic or carbonate sequences and the role of eustatic, tectonic, and autogenic vs. allogenic controls on stratigraphic characteristics.
