Overview

The Nuclear Med Technologist operates imaging equipment and performs nuclear med exams as ordered by the physician and under the guidance of the physician. Assists in preparing the exam/procedure rooms, as needed.

Responsibilities

Accurately performs Nuclear Med exams to department standards including technique, positioning, protocols, and administration of isotopes.

Assures quality of Nuclear Med images presented to radiologist or physician for interpretation and consults with doctor to obtain optimum exam.

Assures safety of patient including pregnancy identification and shielding documentation; reviews safety questionnaire prior to scanning patient. Always uses proper lifting techniques as demonstrated in annual body mechanics in-service.

Provides efficient transportation for patients both to and from requesting service areas. Uses wheelchairs, stretchers, beds in an appropriate fashion. Assists patient in and out of wheelchair and stretchers using proper wheel locking procedures.

Cleans wheelchairs and stretchers and reports needed repairs to supervisor.

Coordinates the selection and use of supplies, minor equipment, X-Rays, reports, and files between departmental units as needed and maintains an efficient workflow.

Maintains accurate records for isotope ordering and disposal.

Prepares radioisotope material, verify physician orders, and injects patients for I.V. procedure using proper sterile technique. Uses table pads, sheets, side rails/locks, to assure patient comfort and safety. Accurately utilizes initial side markers

Qualifications

Associate's degree required. Completion of a formal Nuclear Medicine training in an AMA approved school for degree or diploma.

Florida Nuclear Medicine license required.

ARRT(N) or CNMT required.

BLS required
