Structural Engineer
STRUCTURAL ENGINEER is required by our client, a leader in engineering, to be assigned on a contract basis, located in Torrance, California.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Phase 1 – Identify priority structures that pose the most risk.
Phase 2 – Develop engineering and construction packages to rectify the high-risk areas identified in Phase 1

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Phase 1 – Identify priority structures that pose the most risk.
- Review existing surveys of buildings and structures from reports and drawings.
- Of the thousands of instances of structural damage, use risk assessment methodology – specifically, Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analysis (“FMECA”) to rank and prioritize those that pose the greatest risk.
- Phase one results will be used in the current budget planning cycle to develop engineering and construction packages in 2026.
- Term: August, September, October 2025
Phase 2 – Develop engineering and construction packages to rectify the high-risk areas identified in Phase 1

EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS
Phase 1
- Bachelor's degree in civil/structural engineering. Master's degree preffered.
- 15 years plus experience in refining and oil and gas sector or heavy process industries such as petrochemicals, steel, aluminum or mining.
- Familiarity with FMECA risk assessment methodologies.
- Able to meet deadlines and work with minimal supervision.
- Must be prepared to work 40 hours per week in the refinery.
- Must undertake 20 hours of safety training to attain Risk Level 1 qualification so as to be able to work within production areas.
- Candidates must undergo and pass a drug screening.
- Must have professional-level proficiency in written and verbal English, along with strong interpersonal skills.
- All of the above but must possess a registered Professional Engineer certification for the State of California; or, if registered in another State be prepared to attain registration in California.
- Candidates who possess a bachelor's or master's degree in a related discipline and are registered Professional Engineers in California or another State and possess 15 years' plus in refining or oil and gas will be considered.
