Job Summary
Are you a Journey Line Technician or Line Apprentice who is looking for an advanced opportunity? We are currently recruiting for a Local Representative - Gas & Electric to support the community in and around Darlington, WI
For this role, we are looking for a Journey Line Technician or Line Apprentice to work both independently and alongside crews as needed. Primarily working in an assigned outlying gas and electric area away from the district office. In this role you are responsible for operating in a designated outlying gas and electric service area, independent of the district office, to represent the company and support its mission. The position includes delivering reliable service to community customers and ensuring the proper upkeep of infrastructure and equipment within the assigned area.
In this position, you will take after-hours emergency and outage calls. Residency required for this position is to reside within 20 minutes of the center of the designated territory, located at the intersection of Highway 23 and Highway 81, (also known as Main St. and E. Louisa St.) The electric service area extends West to Belmont and south to Shullsburg).

What you will do
- Detects and corrects distribution system defects or faults, and reports defects or faults on the transmission system.
- Connects and disconnects electric and gas meters and investigates meter issues.
- Follows up on customer requests and concerns.
- Installs and maintains service lines and streetlight systems.
- Installs and removes meters.
- Services equipment such as installing and maintaining customer services.
- Responds to service interruptions, identifies the issue and restores service.
- Patrols lines and trims trees.
- Climbs poles and assists line crews with line rebuilds and storm restoration efforts.
- Responds to natural gas odor, and carbon monoxide concerns; assists gas department in protecting private and public property during a major gas event such as blowing gas or system wide loss of pressure.
- Performs other duties which are similar, related or incidental to this position.
Education Requirements
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
Required Experience
- 1 year experience as a journeyman line technician (Journey only)
Preferred Experience
- Knowledge of natural gas systems and HVAC equipment; experience working with public emergency responders such as local Fire and EMS units
Other Requirements
- Must be able to respond to gas or electric emergencies after hours
- Ability to meet 20 minute residency requirement for designated location as determined by the manager
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License prior to the end of trial period
- This position is covered by the Department of Transportation regulations on drug/alcohol testing (CFR 49, Parts 40, 199 and 382), and is subject to drug/alcohol testing according to said regulations.
- Ability to obtain necessary gas qualifications within 6 months of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of service work ability to plan and execute work with very little supervision
- Thorough knowledge of company Safety Rules and Operating Practices and requirements of the State Electrical Code as it relates to line construction and maintenance
- An understanding of company Safety Rules, Operating Practices and State Codes relating to gas operations, construction and maintenance.
- A demonstrated responsibility to the company and the public.
- Employee must live in the community being served
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
