Summary:
Under the supervision of the Supervisor Nuclear Medicine, the Nuclear Medicine Technologist prepares, measures, and administers radionuclides in therapeutic, diagnostic and tracer studies on adolescent through geriatric patients as prescribed by Radiologist or Endocrinologist. He/she will be expected to diagnosis or troubleshoot equipment and software failures in order to successfully identify and resolve such issues. This position may act in a preceptor role to Nuclear Medicine Technologist I associate. The incumbent performs duties and tasks in accordance with performance standards established for the job. The incumbent may have access to highly confidential patient, employee and/or organizational proprietary information, and must handle and protect the information in accordance with hospital and system policies, HIPAA requirements and the highest level of ethical standards. The incumbent is responsible for reporting all security events, potential events, or other security risks to the organization. The incumbent is responsible for participation in and completion of all patient safety initiatives appropriate to the position, and conducts all job responsibilities according to the Mission and Values of the Hospital.

Responsibilities:
- Prepares the scan room, calibrates equipment, prepares radioactive materials for calibration and patient administration.
- Prepares patients for procedures, explains exam process to patient, performs applicable pre-exam procedures such as exam requisition, patient identification verification, obtaining patient demographics, and providing appropriate post-exam instructions to patients.
- Performs nuclear medicine scanning examinations in accordance with department protocols.
- Adheres to established safety procedures including those for patient handling, radiation shielding, equipment, and materials security.
- Monitors and records radiation levels according to protocol.
- Keeps assigned area stocked with supplies.
- Communicates equipment malfunctions immediately to Supervisor.
- Completes appropriate documentation such as computer data, charge entry, and chart work.
- Assists Supervisor with patient bookings and performs duties as assigned.
- Demonstrates mastery of technical skills needed to operate all equipment.
- Demonstrates ability to take on additional responsibilities.
- Participates in QA program and meets QA department standards.
- Performs work with thoroughness and timeliness while maintaining department safety, quality, and quantity.
