Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department - Conveyance Division is seeking self-starters eager to learn new skills within a team environment. Responsibilities include the repair and maintenance of over 22 pump stations strategically located throughout Pima County. These pump stations are essential to the sewer system, efficiently pumping wastewater back to gravity lines within the Conveyance System.

Essential Functions:

Work assignments may vary depending on the department's need and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor.

• Performs repairs and routine maintenance of industrial wastewater pumps, pumping systems, industrial electrical systems, and power-generating engines;
• Assists Wastewater Mechanics and Trades Maintenance Specialists and Technicians in non-routine maintenance, repairs, and construction of assigned facilities and systems;
• Assists Wastewater Mechanics in the repair and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities and wastewater conveyance systems;
• Assists other journey-level trade workers, such as painters, welders, electricians, and instrumentation technicians;
• Assists specialists/technicians in the installation, maintenance, and repair of specialized equipment or controls;
• Lifts and moves heavy materials, tools, and supplies;
• Uses and maintains safety and personal protective equipment;
• Performs operator-level maintenance, servicing, and adjustments of common tools and equipment; Performs worksite clean-up following completion of jobs.

Minimum Qualifications:

One year of experience working in industrial mechanical maintenance and repair, pumping systems, electrical systems, or power generation engine maintenance.

(Work experience limited to automotive, truck, or heavy equipment maintenance is not qualifying experience.)

OR:

One year of experience with Pima County as a Maintenance Mechanic, Utility Service Worker I, Trades Maintenance Helper, or Trades Maintenance Technician in other than automotive, truck, or heavy equipment repair and/or maintenance.

(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):

• Minimum two (2) years experience with industrial mechanical equipment, performing repairs and routine maintenance of industrial equipment, positive displacement pumps, submersible pumps, centrifugal booster pumps, gear boxes, valves, plumbing, pipe fitting, compressor/blower maintenance, and diesel generator maintenance.
• Minimum two (2) years experience in construction, installation, troubleshooting, and alignment of heavy-duty industrial equipment and machinery.
• Minimum two (2) years experience in welding and fabrication.
• Minimum two (2) years experience maintaining work history for maintenance and preventative maintenance activity logs.
• Minimum two (2) years experience with/skill in interpreting blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.

Selection Procedure:
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant's suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services' review and approval of the candidate's driving record. Some positions require a valid Arizona Class D driver license at time of application or prior to completion of an initial or promotional probation period. Failure to obtain/maintain the required certification/licensures shall be grounds for termination.

Physical/Sensory Requirements: Constantly operates and inspects mechanical equipment. Constantly positions self to use, inspect, clean, or repair tools and machinery. Constantly observes details at close range. Frequently required to exchange accurate information. Frequently remains in a stationary position. Frequently moves tools and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. Frequently operates a motor vehicle or golf cart safely and legally, in accordance with applicable state and federal transportation laws. Occasionally moves tools and equipment weighing up to 75 lbs. Occasionally ascends/descends machinery and equipment to repair/service. Frequently ascending and descending ladders and stairs to reach and work upon elevated or below-grade work platforms and job sites.

Working Conditions: Some positions may be required to go on an on-call rotation. Constantly exposed to loud noise levels. Constantly exposed to moving mechanical parts. Occasionally exposed to mechanical oils, vibration, and risk of electrical shock. Working with or in the presence of obnoxious odors. Working with noxious or potentially hazardous chemicals, compounds or products. Constantly exposed to extreme heat. Occasionally, confined space entry. Employees may be exposed to various weather conditions. Walking on uneven/slippery surfaces.
