WHAT WILL BE YOUR ROLE
Job title: Short Term Power Trader
Role: Responsible for Short Term Trading and Scheduling
Seniority: Mid to senior level (experienced)
Location: Tokyo, Japa
Main activities
• Trading and hedging short term physical power in Japan and being accountable for the short term book P&L performance. Trading horizon covers short-term, JEPX spot auction and intraday market
• The person shall also be the head of Expertise Center (EC) Short Term in Japan power physical trading business, including trade life cycle, nomination, gird code
• Proactively evaluate new momentum in the market and actively catch trading opportunities
• Maximise the value from solar balancing, VPPA and other portfolio
• Able to reconcile PnL reports should disagreement occurs
• Ensure the appropriate market coverage (trading, scheduling) including staffing that satisfies the various stage of the business as it grows
• Work closely with Head of Japan power, other traders and originators to form long lasting business strategies for the desk
• Initiate new ideas for big structural deals. Innovate new profitable revenue streams. Elevate relationship alongside sales person
• Actively participate in the structuring of new business opportunities and advise the originator on the economics /feasibility
• Responsible for ensuring that the new business structures (PPA, Blanking Services, others) are smoothly and profitably implemented
• Add ideas to client presentations and reports upon request
• Troubleshoot issues which may occur in physical power trading and delivery phases
• Liaise with various internal teams such as KYC, Legal, Tax, IT, Middle Office and Back Office on various trade life cycle matters
• Lead and accelerate the market analysis relating to the short term trading scop
YOUR PROFILE
• Minimum 5 years' experience in Japan power trading or power scheduling (需給管理)
• In-depth knowledge in physical life cycle Japan power
• In-depth understanding in various drivers of Japan power market, as well as global energy markets (oil, gas, macro, carbon, regulations etc.)
• Entrepreneurship to build business, thinking outside of the box
• Analytical thinker, learner, curious and keen to push for creative ideas, enthusiastic about what he/she is doing and passionate about market
• Personal effectiveness: rigorous, accountable, and Methodic thinking. Able to make decision collectively when needed, or independently when there is environmental constraints.
• Attention to detail and problem solver
• Able to work with time pressure with strict deadlines
• Ability to multi-task and work under minimal supervision
• Excellent communication skills and ability to prepare presentations
• MS Office computer skills, VBA/database development would be an asset
• Strong work ethic, ability to work independently and responsibly
• Native level Japanese (reading, writing, speaking) and advanced English language skills (TOEIC 750 or better
