The Opportunity

At Hitachi Energy, we're shaping the future of power systems through innovation, collaboration, and purpose-driven technology. As a Sr. Power System Application Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of developing intelligent software solutions that drive the reliability, efficiency, and sustainability of the global power grid. Our customers operate some of the most complex transmission and distribution networks in the world-and they rely on our expertise to keep the lights on.

This is more than a software engineering role. It's a chance to influence how energy is delivered, optimized, and integrated with emerging technologies like distributed energy resources, smart grids, and AI-powered analytics. You'll work alongside passionate engineers, data scientists, and grid specialists in a collaborative agile environment that values curiosity, creativity, and continuous improvement.

Whether you're modeling power flows, simulating contingencies, or designing next-gen control systems, your work will directly impact the resilience of critical infrastructure. If you're ready to apply your technical skills to real-world challenges and help accelerate the energy transition, this is your opportunity to make a meaningful difference.

How You'll Make an Impact
  • Design and develop advanced applications for grid monitoring, control, and optimization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, high-performance software.
  • Analyze power system data to improve operational efficiency and reliability.
  • Prototype models using optimization and machine learning tools.
  • Translate user requirements into technical designs and implementation plans.
  • Conduct performance tuning and debugging across Linux and Windows environments.
  • Present technical solutions and best practices to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Continuously improve software quality through agile retrospectives and feedback loops.
  • Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your Background
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in software development and performance tuning.
  • Strong knowledge of power system modeling, simulation, and optimization.
  • Familiarity with tools like Load Flow, State Estimation, and Economic Dispatch.
  • Proficiency in .NET/C#, C++, MATLAB, Java, or Python.
  • Experience with Linux and Windows development environments.
  • Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
