The HVAC Boiler Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, efficiency, and functionality of HVAC and boiler systems across facilities. This position is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and boiler systems. The technician ensures compliance with safety and operational standards and provides emergency response as needed. The role demands strong technical skills, sound judgment and a hands-on, problem-solving approach to minimize system downtime.

The HVAC Boiler Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, efficiency, and functionality of HVAC and boiler systems across facilities. This position is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and boiler systems. The technician ensures compliance with safety and operational standards and provides emergency response as needed. The role demands strong technical skills, sound judgment and a hands-on, problem-solving approach to minimize system downtime.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Required: High School Diploma or equivalent and at least 3 years' experience as a certified HVAC/Boiler Technician and 5 years' experience of trade-related work
- Preferred: Associate degree in a related technical field
- Must have a valid HVAC Universal Contractor's License or Commercial Boiler Certification
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential functions listed here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the job.
- Install, maintain, and repair commercial HVAC and boiler systems, including split systems up to 50 tons, mini-split systems, various types of water pumps, unit heaters, intake/exhaust fans, humidifiers, and;
- Electric Motors (3-phase and 1-phase)
- Electric motor controls (contractors, starters, relays, disconnect, thermostats, etc.)
- Light commercial furnaces, boilers, burners and related controls (oil and gas)
- Conduct routine system inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure optimal performance.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration issues using diagnostic tools.
- Repair or replace defective components and adjust controls to improve system efficiency.
- Monitor and control gauges, meters, and instruments related to boiler operations
- Document maintenance and repair activities.
- Respond to emergency repair calls to restore system functionality.
- Assist in energy audits and provide recommendations for system efficiency improvements.
- Collaborate with engineers and other technicians on complex installations or repairs.
- Maintain inventory of tools, supplies, and replacement parts; organize and track usage to reduce loss.
- Provide training and guidance to junior technicians.
- Follow all relevant HVAC and boiler safety codes and protocols.
- Support other facility maintenance tasks as needed (e.g., plumbing, painting, electrical work).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Experience with commercial boiler systems and hydronic heating
- Proficiency in interpreting blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
- Strong knowledge of:
- Air conditioning and refrigeration cycles
- Heating systems (gas, oil, steam)
- Electrical systems (AC/DC, single and three-phase circuits)
- Soldering and brazing techniques
- Heat load and heat loss calculations
- Ability to:
- Use manifold gauges, multimeters, and pressure/temperature charts
- Troubleshoot HVAC/R systems and electrical circuits
- Work in confined spaces and lift up to 75 pounds
- Safely handle refrigerants and perform recovery, evacuation, and charging
