The team operates around 50 sites in 32 states with a robust development pipeline.

About the role

The Process Safety Engineer will be responsible for providing Process Safety engineering support to projects or operations, including maintenance, inspection and turnaround, interacting with other disciplines, teams, subfunctions and contractors to assist in resolving problems and developing engineering judgement to deliver integrated, pragmatic solutions focused on risk management, operating efficiency, defect elimination and standardization.

Key accountabilities

  • Provides Process Safety engineering support within defined area of responsibility, which may include analyzing and managing hazards and dealing with the prevention and control of incidents through continuous risk reduction improvements in order to manage the integrity of operating systems and processes.
  • Assists with tasks involving design philosophy, scope definition, equipment specification, engineering calculations, construction, commissioning and start-up, along with ongoing operations.
  • Acts as a point of contact on discipline-related questions and supports management of data and delivery of analyses.
  • Regularly interacts with operations and maintenance personnel in the field to enrich own operations knowledge and supports the area's activities including, as needed, its self-verification and Control of Work processes.
  • Identifies and delivers recommendations for process improvements and optimization and assists in coordinating Management of Change (MoC) processes.
  • Actively participates in BP technical networks and communities of practice, maintaining a strong awareness of technical learnings and developing links with specialists and engineers from a range of disciplines.

Essential education

  • Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent

Essential experience

  • Working experience with hazard identification, risk analyses and assessment methodologies (e.g. Hazard Identification (HAZID), HAZOP/LOPAs)
  • Working knowledge of industry codes, standards and practices relevant to process design and safety (e.g. ASME, API, NFPA, ANSI, etc.) and Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP)
  • Understanding and experiences with risk scenario development techniques, including assignment of probabilities and consequences

Desirable criteria

  • Professional accreditation, such as CCPSC or P.E.
  • Advanced knowledge and/or experience with programs following OSHA's process safety management (PSM) regulation (29 CFR 1910.119)
  • Effective collaboration, writing, and communication/interpersonal skills
  • Excellent technical and quantitative analysis skills and exceptional attention to detail

How much do we pay? $120,000 - $160,000 *Note that the pay range listed for this position is a genuinely expected and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting.

This position offers paid vacation depending on your years of relevant industry experience and will range from 120 - 240 hours of vacation per year for full times employees (60 - 240 hours of vacation per year for part time employees). You will also be eligible for 9 paid holidays per year and 2 personal choice holidays.
