Job Description:

The Principal Nuclear Engineer leads a small group of Nuclear engineers in the UK to deliver technical nuclear engineering projects and activities in accordance with CORE POWER's project targets. This position works in collaboration with internal and external engineering teams to deliver the required technical project work assigned, associated with maritime nuclear power within the OECD. The nuclear engineering team works within the wider product team, closely collaborating with our Asset, Safety and Analytics teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Our ideal candidate will deliver technical project work assignments and analysis to progress product development for safe deployment of FNPP and Nuclear Propulsion technologies worldwide.

Leads the nuclear technical engineering team in the UK:
  • Working closely with senior leadership to align project goals with the organization's strategic objectives.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing early design risk assessment methodologies relevant for the integration of Gen IV reactors into floating platforms.
  • Liaising and developing relationships with key stakeholders, including designers, classification societies and nuclear regulators.
  • Supporting the development of Regulatory Engagement Plans for the Licensing of CORE POWER's FNPP products.
  • Staying abreast of Nuclear Regulatory developments and articulating relevant aspects to the design team and Executive Committee.
  • Authoring and reviewing key Nuclear Regulatory Engagement Information.
  • Supporting the design team in developing and delivering compliant design projects.
  • Representing CORE POWER at external events and conferences.
  • Participating in hiring efforts for nuclear talent.
  • Participating in the scientific publications of CP R&D, attending internal and external conferences and events.
  • Fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Developing and maintaining a robust validation and verification framework.
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality and export-controlled information.
  • Ensuring that the entire team is engaged in CPD and learning activities as per the UK Engineering Council standards.

Job Requirements:

The key job requirements are:
  • Establish and maintain nuclear engineering project management standards and best practices.
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of technical nuclear engineering projects.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Develop and implement Project policies and procedures.
  • Provide guidance and support to the technical nuclear engineering team.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among project stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide training and development opportunities for the team as required.
  • Prepare and present project reports to senior stakeholders.
  • Manage resource allocation and capacity planning.
  • Lead change management initiatives related to project management.
  • Frequent travel to the US, to meet and work with partners, attend conferences and engage with the US Nuclear Team (projected to a minimum of three times per year).

Educational Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Nuclear Engineering or a related field.

Work Experience:

  • 12 -15 Years of experience in the Nuclear Industry.
  • Previous experience in a multi-entity environment working as a senior nuclear engineer in a multi-disciplinary team and contributing to a holistic design objective.
  • Significant experience in authoring or reviewing safety cases for Nuclear Installations
  • Significant experience in classification of Structures, Systems and Components (SSCs) according to safety and applying the required safety requirements in further development.
  • Deep understanding of nuclear safety engineering principles and interaction with nuclear safety regulators.
  • Experience with deterministic and probabilistic safety assessment methods.
  • Deep understanding of the concept of safety margin and defence in depth.
