Basic Function

Provides planning and support to Facilities Maintenance Management. Primary responsibility is to install, repair, and maintain HVAC systems, ensuring that these systems function properly and efficiently. This includes air conditioning units, heating systems, and ventilation equipment. Responsible for conducting regular inspections of HVAC systems to identify any potential problems or issues and perform necessary repairs. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with applicable rules and procedures.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties

  • Responsible for inspecting and testing HVAC systems and components.
  • Responsible for identifying, analyzing, diagnosing, and repairing equipment and systems that are malfunctioning.
  • Performs emergency repairs promptly and efficiently.
  • Ensures compliance with appliance standards and with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Responsible for identifying maintenance risks and addressing potential issues.
  • Responsible for complying with service standards, work instructions, and customers' requirements.
  • Maintains and repairs motors, pumps, condensers, boilers, heaters, and controls.
  • Assists with customers' queries and provides technical advice.
  • Prepares records and reports detailing work performed.
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains HVAC systems including air conditioning, heating units, heat pumps, compressors, and refrigeration systems.
  • Responsible for understanding of HVAC principles, codes, and regulations to ensure all work is carried out to the highest safety and quality standards.
  • Inspects and test HVAC systems and components for any problems.
  • Performs regular preventive maintenance tasks to ensure system longevity.
  • Diagnoses and repairs malfunctions in various HVAC systems.
  • Ensures compliance with appliance standards and with Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Responsible for recording HVAC maintenance and repair work performed and keeps a record of the type and cost of maintenance or repair work.
  • Responds to emergency calls for HVAC problems.
  • Provides excellent customer service and explain to management what repairs are needed and what has been done.
  • Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.
  • Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency's Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP).
  • Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
    Pay Range: $60,800 - $79,700

Education Requirement

High School Diploma or GED is required.

Years & Experience Required

Minimum of 3 years of experience verified in HVAC field. Must have knowledge of automatic centralized control of a building's HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), electrical, lighting, and other interrelated systems. High Rise experience and working knowledge of up to 500-ton chillers (3 years). Experience installing, maintaining, and repairing ventilation and air conditioning systems and equipment (BAS). Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, schematics, and manuals. Safety inspections.

Knowledge & Skills Required

Working knowledge of boiler systems. Proven experience as an HVAC technician. Ability to work in confined spaces. Understanding of advanced principles of air conditioning, refrigeration and heating. Proficient in balancing air and water treatment systems in line with HVAC protocols. Knowledge of maintenance terminology and PC skills to include Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Access or similar database software. EPA Section 68 Certification (CFC)/HVAC Mechanical State License a plus. Familiar with EPA Regulations.
