Job Summary:

• Responsible for ensuring the mining operations operate safely and effectively to meet the needs of the business.
• Leading the mining operation with minimal downtime and maximum productivity while maintaining a safety focused, MSHA compliant work environment. Empower employees and maintain positive employee relations at all levels of the organization, creating a culture of continuous improvement and ownership.
• Responsible for compliance with all MSHA regulations.
• Supervise, coordinate, and provides leadership to and reviews the work of assigned personnel. Train employees with established safety, operating and maintenance, rules and regulations. Hold personnel accountable for their job performance through coaching and discipline if necessary. Performs duties of assigned staff when necessary.
• Develop a team environment, encompassing staff at all levels and expertise, that utilizes individual, site and corporate strengths to meet daily business needs, solve problems, develop and implement long-term goals and objectives.
• Maintain established safety and health policies and regulations. Conduct Employee training in accident and fire prevention, MSHA requirements, and other employee safety processes. Distribute educational materials and information, audits mining areas and initiates the correction of hazardous situations for compliance with MSHA regulations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Demonstrate strong safety background.
• 3 or more years' underground mining experience OR Bachelor's degree AND 1+ year underground mining experience
• Ability to work all shifts,
• Knowledge of federal mining laws (MSHA).
• Knowledge of mining methods and in use and operation of related equipment.
• Knowledge in the installation, basic maintenance, or operation of mine ventilation and materials processing/handling systems and/or mine shaft maintenance.
• Must be able to work weekends as required.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Acquired general mechanical skills/aptitude.
• Knowledge of or experience within preventive maintenance- parts inventory systems.
• Exposure/knowledge of basic PC software programs.
• Experience utilizing root cause analysis tools such as 5why.
• Must be a task-oriented person with a great focus on details.
• Experience in working in a union environment.

Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to climb ladders, steps, crawl and bend regularly
• Must be able to lift and carry up to fifty pounds regularly
• Must be able to wear proper PPE including steel toe shoes and safety glasses
• Must be able to work safely in varying temperatures outside year round
