Wood is recruiting a Materials Engineer to be a vital contributor to delivering expert advisory services to both our internal teams and external clients.

You will join our Operations business in a pivotal role as we partner with a major player in the Oil & Gas industry on a major brownfields Engineering Service Contract. Based in Perth CBD, this is a permanent role and is available as a full-time basis.

RESPONSIBILITIES

This role offers a unique opportunity to be mentored by the Head of Discipline - Materials within Wood, as you step into a dedicated client contract team. You'll gain hands-on experience across diverse projects while developing your expertise in materials and corrosion engineering. With guidance and support, you'll grow your confidence, sharpen your technical skills, and contribute meaningfully to high-impact work—all within a culture that values learning, collaboration, and delivery excellence.

Your main responsibilities will include supporting proposal development, selecting appropriate materials, mitigating corrosion risks, understanding welding metallurgy, and preparing technical reports.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Materials & Corrosion Expertise: Assist in selecting and specifying suitable materials, coatings, and linings based on project requirements and environmental conditions. Contribute to corrosion risk assessments, develop mitigation strategies, and review welding documentation to ensure compliance with industry standards and project specifications.
  • Project Support & Technical Analysis: Prepare detailed technical reports and documentation aligned with client specifications and industry standards to support project execution and decision-making.
  • Standards & Compliance: Learn and apply relevant industry codes and standards for both brownfield and greenfield projects, ensuring all deliverables meet industry and client requirements.

Expected:

You will be:
  • Able to work lawfully in Australia and hold full working rights for this location. If you have a visa application in progress, you are also encouraged to apply.
  • Suitably qualified in Materials Science, Metallurgy, or a related engineering discipline from a recognised institution.
  • A recent graduate or an engineer early in your career with experience in materials engineering, preferably within asset integrity, corrosion mitigation, materials selection, welding metallurgy, or related fields.
  • Knowledgeable of industry standards and codes related to materials, corrosion, welding, and coatings is advantageous
