What this job involves
This position involves operating and maintaining critical building systems during second shift operations, including air handling units, refrigeration machinery, and auxiliary plant equipment. The role requires ensuring proper environmental conditions throughout assigned areas while monitoring, troubleshooting, and repairing various mechanical systems to meet client specifications and operational requirements.
Your day-to-day tasks will include:
• Operate and maintain air handling units, refrigeration machinery, and auxiliary plant mechanical equipment
• Monitor and adjust valves, switches, recorders, charts, indicators, and thermometers for optimal system control
• Maintain detailed logs and ensure required environmental conditions (temperature, pressure, humidity) are met throughout assigned areas
• Anticipate and detect equipment failures, locate faulty equipment, and perform necessary adjustments, replacements, or repairs
• Overhaul and install equipment as required to maintain system functionality
• Advise and instruct personnel assisting with equipment operations, maintenance, and repair work
• Manage specialty systems including vacuum, air conditioning, coolant, heating, ventilation, fume hoods, water systems, compressed air, and specialty water (DI, RO, WFI) systems
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
• Second shift work schedule
• Indoor industrial/mechanical plant environment
• Exposure to mechanical equipment and machinery
• May require lifting, bending, and working in various positions
• Potential exposure to temperature variations and equipment noise
• Work with specialty water systems and chemical processes
Required Qualifications:
• Valid Puerto Rico Refrigeration Technician License (non-negotiable)
• Proven experience operating and maintaining air handling units and refrigeration systems
• Knowledge of HVAC systems, controls, and environmental monitoring equipment
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, charts, and system indicators
• Experience with troubleshooting and repairing mechanical equipment
• Strong understanding of temperature, pressure, and humidity control systems • Ability to maintain accurate logs and documentation
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with specialty water systems (DI, RO, WFI)
• Knowledge of compressed air systems and vacuum equipment
• Familiarity with fume hood and exhaust system operations
• Basic supervisory or training experience
• Understanding of preventive maintenance programs
• Experience in pharmaceutical, laboratory, or critical facility environments
• Additional HVAC or mechanical certifications
