Piping Designer - Permanent - £50k - £60k Hybrid Permanent - Operator
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
You will:
• Participate and lead development of deliverables, specifications, and company standards on engineering projects
• Undertake detailed design activities for modifications to existing facilities, and for new build plants
• Develop intelligent 3D models for equipment, instrumentation and mechanical in-line items
• Lead process & utility piping routing design, piping support design and connections to equipment in-line with company specifications
• Review installation, accessibility, serviceability, lifting, and equipment spacing requirements in-line with company specifications and operational requirements
• Preliminary modelling of steel structures for handover to structural engineers
• Assist electrical and instrumentation engineering department to draft instrument hook-up drawings, cable tray routings, SLDs, RIO panels and electrical drawings
• Generate drawing work packages for detailed analysis such as Piping Stress Analysis, CFD modelling etc.
• Perform full conformity checks between 3D model and manual/actuated valve, mechanical items, and line lists
• Coordinate drafting activities with other drafters, designers, and engineering disciplines
• Participate in development of project and R&D piping and mechanical design engineering deliverable packages
• Liaise with contractors, manufacturers, and vendors to develop, deliver, and troubleshoot 3D modelling activities
• Ensure design files, server folders and drawing registers are kept up to date.
Due to the company's size, candidates will be required to be flexible in the roles they perform within the business.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
• HNC (or equivalent) in Mechanical Design, Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical (preferred) or equivalent qualification.
• Experience in piping and process plant design and detailed engineering
• Experience using AutoCAD Plant 3D, AutoCAD Revit, Navisworks
• Experience developing 3D models of process plant using established 3D modelling software (e.g., AutoCAD Plant 3D, Intergraph Smart Plant 3D, PDMS or equivalent)
• Experience generating detailed design documentation packages, including isometrics, bills of materials, General Arrangement drawings, support specifications.
• Working knowledge of ASME, ASTM, ISO, EN, BS, MSS standards relating to process pipework (preferred but not essential)
• Analytical and problem-solving abilities
• The role would suit a candidate with between 4 to 7 years work experience in oil & gas, biomass, petrochemical, or energy sector
• Enthusiasm and aptitude to be part of a growing team
