Financial Analyst
Location: Calgary
Contact: 12 months initially, potential extension
Monday to Friday - 4 days in office 1 day from home
Description:
This individual will be a key member of the Canadian Refined Products finance team with the responsibility of preparing and communicating the financial stewardship and performance measurement reporting while bridging internal results to both the economic P&L and external financial statements. The individual will also be responsible for preparing and providing variance analysis for long range planning, budgets, and forecasting. Outside of base business, this role will be required to identify, plan, and execute continuous improvement initiatives focused on process efficiency, standardization, agility in reporting and analysis and strength in control framework. This role requires a high level of technical and professional skills and a demonstrated ability to lead with influence and communicate effectively across business functions and with upper management.
Perform monthly accounting and reconciliation process for accrual and actual recording:
- Compile/maintain monthly and YTD results for light oil refined products
- Work with the business to identify and assist in the implementation of corrective actions to close variances.
- Compile/analyze/report Performance Measurement Reporting:
- Present monthly results in Performance Measurement report to demonstrate the intrinsic and added value along with split by business channels
- Prepare variance analysis for monthly & YTD results against budget and forecast
- Communicate/analyze the complexities of the business results to various stakeholders
- Perform the bridge from economic P&L to accrued monthly results to demonstrate the accuracy of the financial results.
- Input and analysis for planning, budget, and forecasting
- Provide insight/validation to the planning team on business assumptions
- Conduct analysis and modeling in support of long-range strategic planning and new initiatives
- Complete the recording of the budget in the ERP system.
- Provide variance analysis and commentary on commodity trading results to various audiences
- Perform various monthly/quarterly variance analysis and reporting including margin analysis, business unit operational/non-operational, capital, and ad hoc
- Interpret results of business unit reporting and develop qualitative explanations for discussion
- Liaise with internal reporting, external reporting, and auditors to communicate financial results and provide consultation and analysis on commodity trading and the impact to external financial statements such as segmented earnings, netback trends, business commitments and MD&A.
- Assess/Develop/Deploy back-office business process change
- Identify back-office requirements across all processes
- Develop best practice back-office process
- Implement process change (communication & training development & deployment); monitor results
- Assist with managing month end close process to support the team and identify areas of improvement
- Support the Design & Implementation of the commercial strategy post divestiture
- Support the business in identifying and managing operational risk within the scope of Downstream accounting
- Identify and manage system and process deficiencies
- Communicate priorities and status of resolution to partner/stakeholders.
