No experience / No degreeOur client, a major Oil and Gas operator in Papua New Guinea, is recruiting for a Deputy GIS Team Leader to join their team on a Contract basis. The incumbent will play a critical role in supporting the GIS Team Leader in managing the GIS team's activities, ensuring the successful delivery of requests, and maintaining high standards of GIS services.

Job Dimension
- A budget of 14 M USD allocated to the performance of the EIS/ESHIA.
- The deputy manager will oversee the team budget monitoring and subcontractor management.
- Mentorship, training, and capacity-building of PNG Nationals. The Deputy Team Leader collaborates closely with team members, stakeholders, and the Team Leader to ensure high-quality GIS services and products are delivered in a timely manner. Team management is a clear job requirement.
- Team Leadership Support: Assist the GIS Team Leader in organizing and assigning tasks to team members. Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical expertise to team members. Collaborate with the Team Leader to set goals, track progress, and ensure team performance meets expectations.
- Project Coordination: Work closely with the Team Leader to plan, execute, and monitor GIS projects from initiation to completion. Coordinate project resources, schedules, and deliverables to ensure timely and high-quality project outcomes. Act as a point of contact for project stakeholders, addressing inquiries and providing regular project updates.
- Technical Expertise: Demonstrate a strong understanding of GIS concepts, tools, and technologies. Assist team members in troubleshooting technical challenges and provide solutions. Stay up to date with industry trends and advancements in GIS technology.
- Data Management: Collaborate with the Data Management team to ensure accurate and efficient data collection, storage, and maintenance. Implement best practices for data quality assurance and quality control.
- Spatial Analysis: Conduct advanced spatial analysis using GIS tools to support decision-making and problem-solving.
- Training and Development: Identify training needs for team members and assist in organizing relevant training sessions. Foster a learning environment within the team to encourage skill development and knowledge sharing.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure that GIS products, maps, and analysis outputs meet quality standards and adhere to best practices. Review and validate the accuracy of GIS data and analysis results.
- Collaboration and Communication: Foster effective communication within the team and with other departments or stakeholders. Participate in cross-functional meetings and provide insights from a GIS perspective.
The GIS Deputy Team Leader plays a critical role in supporting the GIS Team Leader in managing the GIS team's activities, ensuring the successful delivery of requests, and maintaining high standards of GIS services.
Required Qualifications / Experience
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Geography, Geomatics, GIS, Environmental Science, or related field.
- Proven 10+ years' experience in GIS data analysis, spatial modeling, and cartographic design. Strong proficiency in GIS ESRI products and software or similar tools. Environmental & Social discipline experience in Oil & Gas is a plus.
- Leadership experience and excellent team collaboration skills. Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent writing skills and a strong command of the English language.
- Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
