ABOUT YOU

We are seeking a someone with analytical laboratory experience, to work in and help run the CAPCIS analytical and production chemistry team laboratory that is part our Production Chemistry Business Pillar.

The wider team is experienced in the technical aspects relating to the evaluation and use of production chemicals in the Oil and Gas industry and there is an opportunity to learn about this industry through this role. The candidate can grow their career through supporting the analytical and testing needs of consultancy and project opportunities within the team. The role will be mixture of running routine analytical evaluations and analyses, maintaining lab equipment and associated calibrations, as well as supporting the senior technician and team leader in the operation of the laboratory as a support function. Supporting the resolution of customer challenges and chemical performance assessments will allow for significant individual career development for a successful candidate looking to develop a technical laboratory career.

Required skills and experience:
  • Good qualifications in the physical sciences, chemistry or similar.
  • 1-5 years of relevant laboratory experience.
  • Any time working with oilfield production chemicals would be an advantage.
  • An interest production chemistry issues, including sampling and analytical requirements would be a benefit.
  • Experience in laboratory team interactions - team working.
  • General problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific test methodologies and report in customer/client technical needs and implement test methodologies or modelling to meet client needs.
  • Good organisation and scheduling skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with colleagues at all levels.
  • Must be fluent in written and spoken English, and able to demonstrate reporting and writing skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in computer programs such as MS Office and particularly Excell
  • Full UK driving licence is advantageous.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Key activities:
  • Undertake laboratory work for a variety of projects under limited supervision.
  • Ensure all work carried out follows agreed procedures as set out in the local management systems including, as appropriate, job sheets, assignment plans, sample instruction sheets prior to authorisation and release by Team Leader.
  • Play an active part in Kaizen 5S (work environment organisation) processes.
  • Consistently and accurately record analytical and test results.
  • In conjunction with Team Leader and/or project manager understand written and numerical data and information pertinent to the progress of assignments and the preparation of client reports including identifying outlying or unexpected results.
  • Produce clear, legible result reports, with a minimum of technical and typographical errors.
  • Maintain daily contact with senior staff/project leaders, working as part of a team reporting to line manager on a regular basis.
  • Set-up, check, maintain and ensure calibration of equipment, in required safe, working order before and after use. Report issues and ensure resolution.
  • Site/work client contact may be required individually or as part of a team.
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of the laboratory area and be able to apply appropriate standards and procedures.
  • Undertake other duties in support of the business as requested and approved by the Team Leader.
