Job Description:
Job Title: Wireline Operator
Location: Grande Prairie / Clairmont based- Staff housing provided if not local to the area
Estimated Start Date: two weeks from offer
End/Renewal Date: 1 year, with possibility of extension or being hired on, dependent on performance
Shift: 14 days on, 7 days off Wed-Tues

JOB SUMMARY: The Wireline Operator is responsible for the safe operation of the wireline truck at the service location, rigging up the wireline truck and crane (as applicable) at the service location and assisting with all wireline operations both in the shop and in the field. The Wireline Operator operates and maintains the assigned truck and equipment, as well as keeps records for the overall operation.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Understand and adhere to all policies and procedures, furthermore understand and adhere to any client's policies and procedures;
  • Ability to promote safety awareness;
  • Build and arm perforating strings (inspection and verification of gun related equipment);
  • Drives company pickups that may be pulling trailers in accordance with the rules and regulations of governing transportation guidelines and company policy and procedures;
  • Under direct supervision the Wireline Operator will be involved in the preparation of the unit and calibration of equipment;
  • Works under the direction of the Field Supervisor safely, efficiently according to established standards, policies and guidelines;
  • Rig up and rig down wireline equipment and pressure control equipment;
  • Under direct supervision the Wireline Operator will redresses tools in the shop and in the field;
  • Ensuring compliance with all regulations applicable to Wireline explosives operations;
  • Assists the supervisor in the troubleshooting of tools, equipment and truck problems;
  • Cleans and maintains company vehicles, tools and equipment;
  • Other duties as assigned by the reporting Manager.
  • Knowledge and Skills:
  • One (1) year experience in industry related field (an asset);
  • Some Wireline training (an asset);
  • NSC/DOT Regulations (preferred) Will train in house under certain circumstances;
  • Explosives Safety (preferred);
  • Basic Electronic knowledge;
  • Willingness to learn and grow within the company;
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple oral and written English instructions and effectively communicate information to others;
  • Basic math skills (additions, subtraction, multiplication and division);
  • Ability to think quickly and apply problem solving skills to situations as they come up in the field;
  • Ability to work in a positive team environment;
  • Ability to work with hands and power tools;
  • Mechanical aptitude;
  • Required to keep all applicable certifications up to date as required by companies Quality and HSE;
  • Ability to operate independently;
  • Ability to champion a company safety culture.
  • Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
  • Frequent climbing (stairs, ladders, terrain);
  • Frequent lifting, pushing and pulling (70 pounds);
  • Frequent bending, twisting and standing;
  • Exposure to working outdoors in all-weather conditions;
  • Ability to work more than 40 hours in any given week;
  • Exposure to high noise over 85 dba;
  • Working with radiation;
  • Working with explosives.
  • Educations, Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:
  • High School Diploma, General Education Diploma, or Equivalent Experience;
  • H2S (an asset);
  • Class 3 Drivers License (preferred) Will train in house under certain circumstances
  • First Aid/CPR (an asset);
  • Must be able to obtain a Blaster License;
  • PAL License (an asset).
  • Qualifications:
  • Results from a pre-employment test must be deemed acceptable in accordance to the companies policies;
  • 5 years commercial/drivers abstract must be in compliant with company guidelines;
  • Results from a back ground check must be deemed acceptable in accordance to company guidelines;
  • Must have acceptable National Dose History results as per company guidelines;
  • Ability to travel;
  • Must be approved by Service Canada to work with explosives;
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
