Overview:
Building services / Mechanical engineer will plan, design, and install cost-effective systems for new builds works in the Oil & Gas Industry. This includes water, plumbing, water management, design engineering with knowledge of lighting, air conditioning, air filtration, heating, fire suppression systems, instrumentation, and telecoms.
The buildings services engineer will oversee the design, and engineer for the installation, and maintenance of a range of mechanical services. The key role will focus on the mechanical and plumbing side of the project. This essential role will turn the bare bones of a building into a space fit for living and working.
This will involve participation in large scale industrial project buildings including permanent camp sites which will involve teams of engineers working towards the same goal. Typical tasks could include:
- Designing plumbing system for major on shore Oil & Gas facility.
- Designing an energy-efficient mechanical plumbing system.
- Distributing water supply to a new accommodation development.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
The day-to-day work activities could involve any of the following tasks, depending on the project and the employer.
- Designing the layout of key building services, including water, plumbing ventilation and heating.
- Identifying the materials for the project, keeping them on-budget and ensuring adherence to energy-saving commitments.
- Checking building services meet health and safety regulations.
- Coordinating with construction professionals, plumbers and electricians to organize engineering and installation work.
- Preparing reports and presentations outlining the energy-saving measures used in the projects.
- Negotiating contracts and establishing budgets for building services engineering work.
- Creating plans using CAD software or creating technical drawings for documentation.
- Monitoring the installation of the building services and creating maintenance schedules.
Qualifications:
Qualification recognised by the appropriate governing body, e.g., This could include CIBSE or IMechE.
