No experience / No degreeThe Senior/Principal Auditor's functions are to perform work by project specifications and manage subordinate auditors while guiding their performance and development. This position holds responsibility for all audit activities in the assigned area under the direction Area Manager (AM), Assistant Chief Auditor (ACA), or Regional Director of Operations (RDO), as appropriate, and by established ABS policies and procedures Plans and assigns audit projects to staff members based on individual abilities.

May have Auditors, Surveyors, and Administrative or Clerical staff who directly report to the Principal Auditor.

What You Will Do:
- Maintains an active awareness of technical, business, and management developments affecting the present and potential customers and communicates this information promptly to the appropriate senior-level managers.
- Maintains constant vigilance regarding pertinent audit activities of competitors operating in the assigned area and communicates intelligence to the Area Manager and ACA, as appropriate.
- Support the development of short and long-term auditor resource needs to be based on the projected business climate in the area assigned to ensure that qualified, trained auditors are available as needs arise.
- Supports Surveyor(s)-in-Charge of assigning auditors to projects based on their strengths and abilities.
- Plans, schedules, and coordinates auditing work, and monitors the quality of service on work performed, including reviews of audit reports.
- Stays up to date with all MSC procedures, verification, and certification requirements and guides the clients in support of the AM, RDO, ACA, and Business Development team.
- Provides supervision, guidance, and training to auditors on the implementation and application of all MSC procedures, ISM safety culture, Guides, and Statutory requirements.
- Carry out complex audits of companies and vessels/units as assigned (i.e. detentions, outlier, TSL, etc.)
- Guide companies on the Outlier List to improve their safety culture, as assigned by AM and/or RDO.
- Promote participation and development among auditors towards the continuous improvement of quality and consistency in all aspects of audit activity.
- Conducts meetings, at least once per year, with the field auditors to discuss audit issues, improvement opportunities as well as the implementation of new requirements.
- Guide auditors in case of PSC/Flag State detentions/interventions, major nonconformities, older vessels, etc.
- Carry out report reviews of complex audits (i.e. detentions, outlier, and TSL, etc.) and secondary report reviews as assigned.
- Monitoring of auditors in support of operations as assigned.
- Supports key performance indicators to meet business outcomes as assigned
- Promotes the services and capabilities of ABS to present and potential customers.
- Directs the implementation and operation of the ABS integrated Health, Safety Quality, and Environmental Management System in assigned areas of responsibility.
What You Will Need:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline required
- Master's degree preferred
- proficiency in the English language commensurate with the scope of their future work.
- Appropriate certification and/or licenses in areas of specialization may be required.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience working in a Senior Auditor II position.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrates leadership, motivation, and teambuilding skills in conducting and/or supporting audit activities.
- Demonstrates analytical and problem-solving ability with the skill to propose and convey solutions effectively
- The knowledge and ability to communicate orally and in writing highly complex and unique technical issues to personnel in related technical fields.
- The management skills to organize, plan, and direct the work activities of other professional employees.
- The human relations skills necessary to maintain positive client contacts and provide leadership and motivation to subordinate staff and peers.
- Ability to undertake short and long-term planning to provide for efficient and effective scheduling of work assignments.
- The desire and ability to work well with others and as a member of a team.
- Responsiveness to customers.
- Obtain a working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management Systems
