JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary: Metallurgical laboratory technician evaluates steel properties during the manufacturing of drill pipe products.

Job responsibilities

• Operate the following machines: to obtain test samples: CNC, milling & turning, drilling, metal band saw, surface grinder, and abrasive cutting saws.
• Perform destructive test of steel tubulars, bar & weld products to include but not limited to operation of tensile test, impact test and hardness test equipment.
• Must adhere to health, safety and quality management system standards. Some physical lifting required of steel test samples. Work environment to include both inside and /or outside temperatures.
• Must be able to read and understand measuring measuring devices. i.e. dial caliper, micrometer and ruler. operation of hand held spectrometer for steel chemical composition analysis.

Qualification:

• Knowledge and/or experience with machining of test samples a plus.
• Knowledge and /or experience with polishing and etching of microstructural samples.
• Knowledge and /or experience with data collections via oracle system. Moderate to advanced computer skills, Word, excel power point a plus.
• Technical degree in metal working trade ( welding, heat treatment, or machining) a plus or 1 - 5 year lab test environment.
• Knowledge of industrial standards such as API, ASTM, ASME, etc.
