We are looking for a Field Service Technician to provide professional services to APC-MGE UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) customers, including technical site analysis to resolve customer issues and perform field service tasks on the full range of APC-MGE single and three-phase equipment.

He/She must apply basic knowledge of electrical safety on the job site, electrical distribution systems, basic test and measurement equipment, thorough knowledge of electrical code and IEEE requirements, and thorough knowledge of electronic principles are required.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Perform start-up and commissioning of all APC-MGE equipment across the entire APC-MGE product line on single and multi-module systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all APC-MGE equipment across the entire APC-MGE product line on single and multi-module systems.
  • Perform unplanned maintenance on all APC-MGE equipment across the entire APC-MGE product line on single and multi-module systems.
  • Perform basic power checks on customer's distribution systems, in conjunction with sales, to complete availability assessments.
  • Document all required information for each site visit conducted.
  • Work with other team members to complete large, custom installation projects.
  • Document, label and properly return all defective parts used in the repair of APC-MGE equipment to the designated disposal/repair location.
  • Educate APC-MGE customers on the basic operation of their equipment. Inform customers of problems they may be experiencing with their equipment in a way that benefits the customer as well as APC-MGE
  • Assist APC-MGE service partners in conducting site visits, technical and professional performance evaluations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills required:
  • College or professional degree in electronics/electrical with at least 3 years of experience, or have 4-5 years of equivalent experience in a related field, or equivalent combinations of education and experience.
  • Previous experience in the industrial electrical field is an asset.
  • Previous experience with uninterruptible power supplies is a plus.
  • Primary focus on electrical safety in the workplace at all times
  • High level of technical knowledge of electronic/electrical component theory.
  • Ability to perform tasks with general direction, receiving only general direction on overall objectives. Work is generally fairly independent of other team members.
  • Adhere to divisional policy guidelines using independent judgment to achieve assigned goals.
  • Comply with all policies, practices and procedures.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and corporate goals.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business procedures, professional documents, technical procedures and government regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and answer questions from groups of managers, clients and customers.
  • Ability to calculate numbers and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.
  • Ability to apply algebra and geometry concepts.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a wide variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form and deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
  • Personal computer skills including email, record keeping, routine database activities, word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, etc.
  • Manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Customer service skills are required as well as the ability to travel.
  • Bilingual (Intermediate level of French and functional knowledge of English for collaboration with our teams and our clients at the provincial and/or international level).

Physical requirements for the position:
  • Be able to stand, walk and sit for long periods of time. Must be flexible and mobile with respect to movement of fingers, hands, arms and legs.
  • Be able to lift and carry heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Be able to see and focus clearly at close range and short distances.
  • Safe driving performance.
