Candidate Profile

MSc. or PhD in energy or power systems with 6 to 10 years of professional experience
Knowledge of several European and/or US Power market structures
Good knowledge of Python, as well as modeling and coding techniques
Good knowledge of renewable power/energy system modelling software (Plexos, PowerFactory...) English and French mandatory

Activities

You will have the opportunity to work on topics driven on the market modeling part that are strategic for the Branch as the deliverables will drive Integrated Power strategy. Models will support Long Term electricity price forecasting and the optimization of our flexible assets in many countries in Europe and also in operated markets in the USA. You will work on techno-economic modelling of energy systems for long-term forecast of electricity price and long-term optimization of assets portfolio (renewables and flexible assets). The main technical challenges to be addressed:
  • Demand modelling considering hypotheses: weather-sensitivity, sector specific growth, social behaviour, etc.
  • Modelling of the supply by technology considering specific assumptions: renewable penetration, hydro inflow-based models, etc.
  • Adjustment of energy system modelling considering the impact of regulatory and market design evolution
  • Development and application of model reduction techniques, optimizing simulation costs (e.g., nodal to zonal simplification, and market perimeter reduction).
  • Support on the construction of a power market roadmap for the DER program.
  • Industrial and scientifical scouting on electricity market system modelling and optimization, and identification of the main challenges related to the massive development of DER projects on the power system.
  • Identification and collaboration with stakeholders at different levels (programs, business units, academic...)
  • Techno-economic studies for evaluation and feasibility of DER projects, mainly with batteries and EVs.
  • Collaboration on the development of team competencies (e.g., training, workshops, watch).

Context & Environment

More and more renewable energies need to be integrated in the power grid, while there is a massive electrification of industries, transportation, and cooling/heating systems. Power infrastructures are under high pressure. Leveraging advanced technologies, Distributed Energy Resources orchestrate production, storage and consumption in real time and at large scale to maintain grid resilience, maximize usage of renewables. The company is willing to extend its integrated power strategy in the electricity value chain. To achieve these goals, we need sophisticated models to enable accurate forecasting and simulation of power systems and power market structures.
