Wood is currently hiring for Principal Civil Structural Engineer for our projects in Doha, Qatar
RESPONSIBILITIES
Participates as a team member in a specific phase of a broad engineering assignment.
Directs preparation of appropriate documentation for assigned projects.
Ensures successful completion of the assigned project/phase within the budgeted time and cost constraints.
Participates in defining engineering approaches, and in planning and scheduling work
Evaluates problems, organizes investigations and establishes general performance specifications for components, equipment, systems, processes, etc. Check Engineering calculations as well as check all drawings in accordance with industry codes and standards; Assist with the development of less senior Technical Professionals
Adhere to and comply with relevant discipline specific procedures and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
Participate in audits and incident investigations as required.
Performs complex engineering tasks related to specific units of major projects
Participate in site visits, project review meetings, design reviews and other workshops as required.
Organising and active participation in design reviews Providing discipline expertise:
Solves problems requiring development of new approaches or new uses for existing approaches; exercises mature professional judgment in evaluating and selecting technical strategic options.
As necessary, modifies established guidelines, devises new approaches, applies existing criteria in new ways and draws conclusions from comparative situations.
Regularly functions as a technical leader or significant contributor to a major complex problem or project
Produces innovative ideas and solves problems requiring development of new approaches or new uses for existing approaches
Consistently called on to use creativity and professional judgement to formulate results based on engineering standards, experience and constructive thinking
Develops unique solutions for complex technical problems

Provide technical input and support to proposals as required Supporting and Supervising task delegation to team:
May supervise a small work group consisting of technical/professional staff with some coaching from own supervisor, or may provide advice and guidance in area of specialization to others.
Assist in performing managerial tasks as requested, such as assigning tasks to engineers; planning and coordinating portions of the engineering work; preparing scopes, schedules, and budgets; attending project meetings; and developing lesser-experienced technical professionals
Discusses with other senior engineers to agree priorities and implications on work of others
Approves work schedules and makes recommendations for increased resources and special equipment
Makes commitments on acceptance of projects, completion dates, resources and staff required to meet goals.
Coordinates the activities of engineering and design groups assigned to small projects.
Participates in developing deadlines, projects and work to be done
May manage one or more small projects, with responsibility for cost, schedule, resources allocation and risk.
Provide appropriate HSSE leadership including compliance with site and office safety requirements and technical/design safety requirement
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:
• Degree in engineering discipline,
• Chartership or relevant professional engineer status accredited by a national or industry engineering
institution preferred
Minimum Experience:
• Requires mature professional knowledge and extensive progressive experience in general engineering.
• Typically requires 6 to 10 years progressively more responsible pertinent experience; developing his/her area, and knowledgeable about impacts on other areas.
Role-Specific Skills and Knowledge:
• Ability to provide guidance and direction to project team, managing, motivating and mentoring professional engineering specialists.
• Ability to discover issues and recommend solutions to technical and commercial issues uncovered during course of performing assignments
• Proficient user of relevant software and calculation templates
• Professional level of ability in the application of standards, processes and procedures and how they are used in work execution
• Professional level of knowledge of applicable codes and standards
• Technically competent in own discipline, pursues continuous professional development of skills and knowledge according to standards
• Maintains own knowledge of relevant regulatory framework, legislation changes, initiatives and industry technology developments and promotes to direct reports.
• Applies mature professional knowledge and experience to assignments where issues and factors to be considered may be characterized by unsual demands and require additional evaluation to establish the nature and scope of the problem
• Demonstrated ability to apply advanced laws, principles, mathematics or industry knowledge in the improvement and development of designs
• Demonstrated skills in persuasion, negotiation, motivation and communication
• Demonstrated proficiency in project planning
• Possess a working knowledge of the various Business Units, Functions, Sectors and services offered within business area, and general understanding of other Wood business offerings
