CAD Lead Designer

Reporting to the Deputy Drawing Office Manager or Drawing Office Manager, the Lead Designer will apply advanced techniques to produce complex drawings and sketches consistent with good engineering practice and in compliance with company drawing office procedures and will have responsibility for checking and overseeing the work of other personnel in the Drawing Office.

He/she may have responsibility for a team of Draftsmen/Designers in the Drawing Office or for part or all drawing services packages provided to a project.

Specific Key Responsibilities & Activities

• Prepare design/fabrication drawings of steel structures and piping using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD software.
• Prepare offshore installation method sketches and rigging drawings.

• Under broad direction assign, oversee, check and approve the work of a team on a project
• Provide focal point for all project communication and activities and ensure the delivery of quality work and services in line with project plans.
• Identify and communicate project resource requirements to the Drawing Office Supervisor or Manager.
• Assess project resource requests and provide feedback on feasibility in terms of deliverables and timescales given resources available.
• Independently evaluate, organise and prioritise work for self and others.
• Actively participate in relevant training and development to pursue continuing professional development.
• Actively help to guide, train, and develop more junior personnel.
• Participate in reviews and development of departmental procedures and work methods.
• Interface with project discipline leads to ensure CAD deliverable schedule is being met and budget is on track.
• Responsible for ensuring that design services comply with company standards and processes in line with appropriate legislation.

Essential Experience, Skills and Knowledge

• Technical education related to mechanical, structural, or civil engineering.
• Relevant previous design and drafting experience in steel fabrication and installation procedure at Senior level.
• Ability to assign, oversee, check, and approve the work of a team on a project
• Ability to prioritize own workload and manage time accordingly to meet time/budget constraints.
• Produces work of presentable quality.
• Well versed in industry codes, standards, and design guidelines.
• Good experience in the use of Autodesk Inventor.
• Proficient in the use of Autodesk AutoCAD.
• Good working knowledge of other non-technical software e.g. MS Office including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Sound communication skills in English and French, both verbally and written.

Desirable Experience, Skills and Knowledge

• Experience in Offshore Wind installation/structures.
• Experience with Autodesk Civil 3D for layout and alignment sheet production.
• Experience with Autodesk Vault for data (drawings/models) management.
• Experience using Siemens Teamcentre product lifecycle management (PLM) system.
