We are hiring! AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Coastal/Environmental Project Director to join our Houston, TX office.

If you have the desire to solve challenges on a variety of infrastructure projects across the Gulf Coast of Texas and elsewhere, this position might be for you. We routinely work on coastal/environmental planning, engineering and permitting for beach restoration, shoreline stabilization, coastal structures, living shorelines, dredging, port facilities, and other infrastructure projects. We are in need of an Coastal Project Director in our Houston, Texas office to help lead and manage our team in delivering this portfolio of projects. The selected candidate will work with local Business Unit and Business Development leadership to increase AtkinsRéalis' coastal and environmental business presence in the coastal Texas market. This role will exercise technical expertise and provide project oversight for projects mostly focused along the Texas coastline but will likely support work across Texas and elsewhere. This position has the potential to manage other staff locally or statewide.

How will you contribute to the team?
  • Prepare technical reports and permit applications in support of projects and provides peer reviews of reports prepared by others. Will be expected to contribute to the preparation of local, state, and federal environmental permits as they apply to the Texas Gulf Coast.
  • Oversee or conduct natural resources field investigations, including but not limited to identification of waters of the United States, including wetland delineations; threatened and endangered species surveys and reporting; coastal habitat evaluations; oyster and submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) surveys and reports, and essential fish habitat (EFH) assessments.
  • Proficiency with USACE permitting and associated resource agency permits.
  • Experience with functional assessments in the USACE Galveston District required, with a demonstrated experience with the interim Hydrogeomorphic functional assessment (iHGM) for wetlands and the Texas Rapid Assessment Method (TxRAM, v 1.0 and 2.0) for streams.
  • Will develop pre-construction notifications (PCN) as they apply to the Federal regulatory program.
  • Serve as a mentor to junior scientists to assist in their training and career development.
  • Must be comfortable developing new opportunities with existing clients as well as identifying new clients and contract opportunities.
  • Support business development and marketing efforts.
  • Will function as an individual researcher or technical specialist, carrying out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.
  • Apply technical expertise and project management experience to manage project teams on conventional and unconventional projects.
  • Assemble technical data and write reports and permit applications. Excellent writing skills are a must.
  • Prepare scopes of work and cost proposals for a wide range of opportunities with input for various coastal practitioners and disciplines.
  • Prepare project work plan, scope, schedule and budget, and communicate these to project team members; monitor/manage project production for compliance with schedule, budget and quality objectives. Monitor reports and schedules to ensure appropriate charging of manhours, costs and expenses to projects, and to communicate project progress/status to senior management.
  • Consistently exercises own judgment and provides guidance to others.
  • Supervises and reviews the work of junior professionals, technicians, and others who assist in specific assignments.

What will you contribute?
  • B.S./B.A. or M.S. in a field of natural resources science; M.S. or graduate level coursework preferred but not required. This level may be achieved by Scientists with minimum of eight to twelve years' experience since Bachelor's degree, or ten years' experience with Master's degree.
  • Proven analytical skills, technical writing, computer and communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills; good public speaking ability; willingness to manage projects financially; knowledge of production support systems such as geographic information systems (GIS). The ideal candidate would have direct experience and knowledge across several Texas ecoregions and be willing to work independently and occasionally remotely from the office.
  • Demonstrated experience working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston (required) and Ft. Worth District strongly desired; experience with other Districts a definite plus.
  • Strong familiarity with various resource agencies required, including EPA, TPWD, USFWS, NMFS, TX GLO, TCEQ and TX based NGO's.
  • Prior project management experience required.
  • Prior small-team personnel management experience required.
  • Professional registrations - Professional Wetland Scientist or other certification is highly desirable. Other certifications such as Certified Wildlife Biologist or Certified Arborist a definite plus.
  • Ability to work in inhospitable outdoor climates of Texas and the Gulf Coast during all seasons.
  • Ability to work under the pressure of multiple projects.
