We are hiring! AtkinsRéalis seeks a Transportation and Tolling Project Director to join our team in Edison, NJ. This role provides a flexible schedule and Hybrid work opportunity.

Working within a regional team environment the successful New Jersey Professional Engineer (P.E.) candidate will lead the acquisition and delivery of tolling and transportation projects with a primary focus on New Jersey Turnpike and New Jersey DOT, as well as other Northeast transportation and toll clients.

Manages complex projects often with high levels of regulatory agency involvement and complex technical requirements, including but not limited to program management, highway design, significant design-build or design-build-operate-maintain undertakings, major and unique structures, etc.

Provides leadership, direction, and technical guidance to project managers and technical staff within assigned area of responsibility to ensure that quality management and technical services are provided to clients. The successful candidate will help further build a team locally and be accountable for project team productivity, project profitability, and results against budges and marketing plan.

How will you contribute to the team?

Marketing and client maintenance -
  • Responsible for actively pursuing, investigating, and evaluating new or expanded opportunities for associated projects and services within the firm by maintaining contacts with current and prospective client decision makers.
  • Assisting with the development, implementation, and monitoring of annual and strategic marketing plans for targeted projects.
  • Supports proposal development and oral interview teams; reviews and recommends project marketing budgets subject to approval by senior management.
  • Maintains visibility and professional courtesy by actively participating in civic and professional organizations and encourages project staff to do the same.

Project production and management -
  • Assists project staff in developing work plans; reviews and approves schedules, budgets, project milestone dates, and work products.
  • Oversees financial performance of projects; assists project staff in identifying potential problems to ensure remedial actions are promptly taken to avoid financial losses and client dissatisfaction.
  • Monitors and enforces compliance with established quality control standards, ensuring that appropriate quality assurance activities are being performed throughout the project. Reviews QC plans and periodic QA compliance audits.
  • Assists assigned project staff in facilitating work sharing with other operating units.
  • Secures resource support from other operating units. Establishes work sharing commitments and negotiates outsourcing budgets with technical managers.

Contracts and financial -
  • Conducts contract negotiations with clients and sub-consultants.
  • Recommends operational budgets for approval by senior management. Reviews and makes decision on proposed project budgets.
  • Monitors monthly performance against budget to ensure project profitability.
  • Management assignments typically involve large, multi-discipline assignments, including unconventional or complex projects made up of highly sophisticated and specialized technical components generating annual net revenue between $5 million to $20 million annually.

Internal staff administration -
  • Assists management team in identifying staffing needs and the hiring/compensation process based on future workload and manpower projections for project staffing.
  • Will currently manage indirect reports from the Technical Professional Organization selected for staffing projects and support mentoring and evaluation of these staff.
  • Responsible for direct management of staff as the local team is further built and expands.

How will you contribute to the team?
  • A New Jersey Professional Engineer P.E. with Bachelor's degree in field of practice such as Civil Engineering. A Graduate degree, or management coursework and/or MBA a plus.
  • This level may be achieved by technical professionals or managers with twelve years of experience since B.S. or eleven years since M.S., with at least three of these years in the Senior Project Manager position with highly complex project management responsibility.
  • Demonstrated track record of winning and executing work with key clients, particularly New Jersey Turnpike and New Jersey DOT. Excellent technical and interpersonal skills, public speaking, and persuasive ability; very strong financial management, team management, and leadership skills; ability to manage and coordinate efforts of various projects to produce budgeted profits and overall results.

Expected compensation range is between $134,000/yr - $ 230,000 annually depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.

Upon acceptance of an offer, all candidates must go through a drug screen test and background check. AtkinsRéalis is a federal contractor which mandates a satisfactory background screening report and drug test that supersedes state laws.
