This position reports to

Operations Manager

Your role and responsibilities

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the selected candidate will manage a team of designers/engineers to deliver high quality, cost-effective, and timely engineering solutions to customers. Formulate plans and allocate resources to meet agreed contractual and financial targets. Ensure the team's compliance with standard processes, procedures, practices, and safety requirements. Act as the senior engineer for major projects and provide technical support to the team. Provide engineering support during the bid phase. The team is working on distribution projects, including traction power equipment for the rail domain (convert MV AC power to LV DC power, DC distribution and protection, storage DC energy), switchgear, MCC, and all other distribution solutions. • Serve as a role model in promoting and integrating ABB Values, HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment), Integrity, Diversity & Inclusion, and other people-related strategies within the local engineering teams. • Collaborate with other distribution solution engineering manager to define performance targets and implement operating guidelines for the teams. • Foster effective relationships with other managers to share best practices and enhance operational efficiency. • Drive team performance to ensure on-time delivery of project deliverables, meeting contractual, safety, and quality requirements. • Oversee progress within designated responsibilities, proactively identifying and managing technical challenges. • Ensure technical solutions meet customer requirements and align with project specifications. • Manage engineering support during bid phases, ensuring accurate resource allocation for solution delivery. • Monitor and manage contractual obligations within designated areas, conducting regular progress reviews and mitigating contractual risks. • Ensure the engineering team is appropriately staffed, developed, and equipped to meet business needs while upholding ABB's integrity policies. • Delegate tasks within the engineering team and establish relevant performance metrics. • Collaborate with the Supply Chain function to secure appropriate supplier services and equipment to support engineering execution. • Facilitate knowledge sharing and implement best practices within the team and across engineering functions. • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance processes, policies, procedures, and overall effectiveness within the designated area. • Provide guidance, motivation, coaching, and development opportunities to direct and indirect reports in accordance with HR policies. • Responsible for personnel performance management (PDA) and salary administration.

Qualifications for the role

  • Required Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with 7-10 years of experience in the field.
  • 3 years of proven experience in supervising teams or projects.
  • Proficiency in Autocad standard and/or Zuken E3 drafting capabilities is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Direct Current Equipment (e.g., Diode rectifiers, Low voltage DC Breakers).
  • Familiarity with Traction Power transformers (MV to LV) and IEEE/CSA standards for electrical equipment (Transformers, Traction Power Rectifiers, Switchgear, Power Circuit Breaker Switchgear, Emergency and Standby Power Systems).
  • Understanding of Electrical Canadian Code CSA C221.
  • Experience with RAMS documentation (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety), EMI/EMC testing, and coordination studies is advantageous.
  • Contract management skills, including oversight of engineering contractual obligations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Proficient in risk management and mitigation strategies.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement practices.
  • Fluency in both French and English.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Job Location: Montreal (St-Laurent) - Hybrid (minimum 1 day per week in the office)
