About UK Infrastructure Bank

We are the new, government-owned policy bank - launched in June 2021 - providing £22bn of infrastructure finance and partnering with the private sector and local government to finance a green industrial revolution and drive growth across the United Kingdom.

We are looking for skilled and results oriented individuals who are motivated to help us build the UKIB into an industry-leading institution.

Job Purpose

The role is responsible for UKIB's approach to Environment, Social, Risk and Governance (ESRG) and opportunity management for our investments in the nuclear power sector.

The role will also involve collaboratively working across the Bank to monitor and manage the ESRG risks to UKIB's investments. It will require working with a multi-disciplinary team of analysts and sector specialists to provide trusted technical ESRG analysis and deal assessments in infrastructure, particularly nuclear energy generation.

Core Role Accountabilities
  • Provide valued and specialist expertise and delivery of assessments, including identifying risks and mitigation measures, on ESRG in an infrastructure context, particularly for nuclear energy projects. This means operating both internally and externally, drawing on own expert knowledge and experience and through strong networks and relationships.
  • Engaging internal sector experts to develop ESRG risk management measures appropriate to the UK, advising on how UK regulatory and licencing frameworks mitigate risks and the interaction with the latest developments in market standards for due diligence, for example the EU's CS3D or IFC Performance Standards.
  • Providing assistance to investment partners in understanding international lender standards, regulatory requirements and ESG frameworks.
  • Support the Bank's investment committee with perspectives from market and proactive connections to international industry practice.
  • Provide direction and support to a high performing multi-disciplinary team of specialists. Support them to connect ESRG issues in an open, constructive and collaborative manner with senior colleagues across the Bank.

Knowledge, Skill and Experience requirements
  • Experience in providing ESRG management in a transaction environment e.g. working with projects, sponsors and/or lenders in project finance processes and cycles and working with financial institution and lender safeguards.
  • Experience managing ESRG risks for large infrastructure projects, ideally in regulated sectors including due diligence reviews / assessments, defining action plans, management of risks from licencing, permitting and regulatory approvals, implementing corrective and mitigation measures, and meeting best practice in ESRG performance.
  • Experience of building ESRG capability and functions, including preferably setting up monitoring and reporting, or portfolio management, processes for ESRG risks.
  • Able to demonstrate relevant technical knowledge, regulation and knowledge of legislation in the context of ESRG and Infrastructure and understanding the application of developing regulatory and market standards for financial institutions e.g. CS3D, ISSB and international development bank/ECA standards.
  • Personally enthused by the Bank's twin missions of local and regional growth and climate change.
  • Proven ability to work with, influence, and navigate stakeholders including commercial and senior partners, academia or government departments.
  • Experience of overseeing and building capability of other colleagues in developing ESRG expertise in a nurturing and inclusive way.

A career with us offers a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact and work on cutting-edge technologies that will drive the UK's future. We value diversity in our people and inclusion is at the heart of what we do.

We offer competitive benefits and unique learning opportunities from combining both private and public sector skills and experience.
