The Tesla Energy Product and Service Engineering team is looking for a passionate, collaborative, and skilled Product Engineering Intern to join the global team to support the explosive growth of our Industrial Storage fleet. As the Industrial Storage fleet grows, Tesla is also committed to having an industry-leading uptime in our deployed fleet of commercial and utility scale batteries. We use data collected from our highly connected systems to find problems before the customer does and to systematically eliminate the causes of downtime. The Industrial Storage team is seeking a product engineering intern to support the identification and root cause of design, process, firmware and software failures in our fleet of energy storage systems. You will work with a team of engineers to diagnose why the power converters, battery modules, digital control systems, heating and cooling systems in Tesla's industrial batteries occasionally malfunction. To be successful, in this role you will need to be skilled at troubleshooting electronic systems, mechanical systems, and computer networks in person and remotely. You should be comfortable developing your own code, manipulating SQL data, and working in the lab. If you are a "maker" that loves to solve problems, this is the internship for you.

Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and firmware issues that cause downtime for Tesla's Industrial Storage customers
  • Mine data logged by Tesla's Industrial Storage fleet to define the fingerprint for a failure mode and utilize Tesla automation tools to programmatic diagnosis and react to future occurrences of that failure mode
  • Define the actions that need to be taken by the field service and technical support teams when a specific failure mode occurs, publish those actions in Tesla's Service tools, and develop any specialized training required to complete those actions
  • Improve on data analytic skills such as SQL and Python
  • Improve on electrical component characteristics and PCB Design analysis
  • Learn more on battery storage operation and service actions
  • Understand how to identify specific failure fingerprints before actual hardware failures occur

Requirements
  • Currently studying in a relevant field like Electrical / Power Electronics Engineering or Data Analytics
  • Level C1 in English (written and spoken) and an additional European language is a plus
  • Preferably some experience in a lab with electronic components
  • Interested to work in a fast paced and always changing environment
  • Proactive and problem-solving oriented mentality
  • Ability to keep the overview and to prioritize incoming workflow accordingly
