Your responsibilities

EGI is eager to reinforce its team to better support our international clients navigating the complex environments they operate in. As part of this effort, we are seeking passionate and talented students who are ready to contribute their skills and knowledge.

Typical activities involve (but are not limited to):
  • Review the methodologies and implementation guidelines related to transmission power systems as established by Transmission System Operators (TSOs) and various institutions (e.g. ENTSO-e).
  • Assist in facilitating meeting flow and documenting post-meeting agreements with detailed meeting minutes (OneNote and Outlook).
  • Support the drafting and review of technical presentations for EGI projects (PowerPoint).
  • Support the drafting and review of technical reports for EGI projects (Word).
  • Support the building of power system models (Plexos and/or PyPSA).
  • Perform data and statistical analysis on extensive datasets (Python).
  • Conduct time-series analysis (Python).
  • Assist in the further development and debugging of our in-house package (Python).

Your profile
  • Enrolled as master student in a university in Industrial/Electrical Engineering, Energy Economics, or similar disciplines.
  • You possess a comprehensive and holistic understanding of the energy sector, along with its implications and interconnections within the broader energy landscape.
  • Energy polices (e.g. Paris Agreement, EU Green Deal) . European and international energy market structure (e.g. Day-Ahead Markets, Balancing Markets)
  • International and national institutions that operate in the energy sector (e.g. TSOs, ISOs, ACER, ENTSO-e, UN, World Bank, USAID, GIZ).
  • You have a solid understanding of mathematical optimization principles, including concepts like the Objective Function, Constraints, Simplex, and Dual, is essential.
  • Knowledge of mathematical optimization in the context of energy systems, particularly concepts such as Unit Commitment, Economic Dispatch and Security-constrained OPF, would be viewed as a significant asset.
  • You have experience with Python, in IDE such as PyCharm, is a must.
  • Familiarity with Git repositories is considered a substantial advantage. Please provide the link to your Git Repository page if applicable.
  • Possessing experience in data analysis and data visualization, specifically utilizing Python modules such as Plotly and Folium, is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Fully proficient written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Currently located in EU, preferably within Germany. Please note that the internship is on-site, NOT remote.
  • You are expected to relocate to Berlin, Germany for the duration of the internship.
