Project Overview

Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first  nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility.

This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, and we are looking for the talent that will help expand Poland’s nuclear base and build a strong and long-lasting energy future for generations to come.

Eligability:                                                                                                                                       For this project we can only consider Polish nationals with the right to live and work in Poland who speak both English and Polish. Canfdidates also need to have active security clearance OR the ability to obtain security clearance.

Upon initial hire and onboarding, the position will require full time presence in the Warsaw, Poland project office. Part-Time telework flexibility may be an option as the project progresses.

Position Summary:

As a Lead Electrical Engineer, you must have solid experience in electrical systems and layout design. Will be capable of developing design documents, including single lines, load lists, and equipment data sheets, that incorporate the applicable design. In addition, it will be required that the candidate have excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), promoting our leadership, quality, and safety values, to external partners including vendors, construction companies, and other subcontractors. 

Responsibilities:

  • Performs Electrical Systems engineering activities, which may include the use of ETAP.
  • Individual must have extensive understanding of all engineering discipline drawings and electrical discipline wiring diagrams, control logic diagrams, system descriptions, system calculations, 1-line and 3-line drawings, schematics, and be able to size equipment and perform cable sizing calculations.
  • Works under the direction of Engineering Group Supervisor.
  • Performs special tasks, calculations/studies and user guides.
  • Responsible to produce basic and higher-tier drawings and documentation in accordance with established conceptual design and scope.
  • Conducts checking as required.
  • Properly interprets and applies codes & standards and customer design requirements, for the preparation of electrical design documents, specifications, material requisitions and system descriptions related to design tasks.
  • Must be a self-starter and capable of independent creative design, with direction, using Bechtel and industry proven concepts, and procedures.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate, and work well with others and within a team.
  • Must be able to work well with other disciplines.
  • Must know how to use computer programs such as the Microsoft WINDOWS suite of programs.
  • Ability to cope with conflicting deadline, frequent interruptions and multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities with emphasis on continuous improvement and team building, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to understand and interpret local/Polish and European codes and standards.
  • Provide additional support to customer in the interactions with the TSO through participation in virtual workshops. 
  • Ability to communicate with the Transmission System Operator (TSO) and customer on requirements to support the switchyard design. 
  • Ability to coordinate with Polish sub-contractor and review sub-contractor deliverables to support Electrical design. 
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with a team and providing support as needed
  • Other duties, as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

  • Level 1: BS degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or college with 9 years of related electrical engineering experience.
  • Level 2: BS degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or college with 13 years of related electrical engineering experience.
  • Must be authorized to live and work in country without sponsorship.  
  • Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineering License (Electrical).
  • Experience in working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.
  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards.
  • Hands-on Microsoft office programs and other computer programs.
  • Extensive knowledge application of ANSI/IEEE Standards.
  • Extensive knowledge application of local/Polish and European codes and standards.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical systems, schematics, and electrical equipment layouts.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, systems calculations, equipment sizing and cable sizing.
  • Previous hands-on or extensive working knowledge with ETAP and other industry-wide electrical system design tools, such as CAD 2D, cable designing and routing software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Level 1: MS degree in Electrical Engineering, from an accredited university, with at least 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Level 2: MS degree in Electrical Engineering, from an accredited university, with at least 11 years of relevant experience.
  • Familiar with Bechtel standard programs.
  • Familiar with all Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs) and their application to projects.
  • Knowledge of design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPS).
  • Experience in construction interface and resolving field problems.
  • Experience with switchyard design and Polish Grid Code. 
  • Knowledgeable of NFPA 70 National Electric Code.
