Due to continued growth in the RSK SafeGround department (the underground utility detection team), we now have an exciting opportunity for a Utility Survey Technician to join our SafeGround team in Helsby, near Chester.

The successful candidate will work in the RSK SafeGround team in Helsby where they will be trained as a Utility Survey Technician, the role is full time (40 hours per week). The candidate will also be enrolled into the Level 3 (L3) Geospatial Survey Technician Apprenticeship at Dudley College for 3 years, with block release throughout each year.

Responsibilities:
  • Assisting our Utility Surveyors in utility detection and mapping and service avoidance, utilising electro-magnetic locators (location of electrical and metallic services), Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and topographical GPS equipment.
  • Completing site documentation for site work crews (Risk Assessments and Method Statements)
  • Understanding desk-based service plans provided by statutory service providers (electricity, water, gas, sewers, telecoms, rail etc.)
  • Learning to write reports for projects
  • Undertaking any other activities required to help our utility surveyors complete their works
  • Learning technical knowledge to further develop into a utility surveying career
  • Other duties that may include organising equipment and storeroom, van checks and keeping equipment maintained.

Qualifications and Experience:

This role will appeal to someone who is interested in starting or has already started a career in the utility surveying industry. There will be an emphasis on site work, but the role will also include office work. The role can cover travelling throughout the UK, although will be based from the RSK Helsby office, with all expenses associated with project work will be covered by RSK (accommodation and subsistence). The technician will be assigned to an experienced RSK Utility Surveyor who will provide on-the-job training, both on-site and support in the office. In-house training courses will be completed to provide experience with the utility surveying and geospatial topographical equipment.

As a minimum the candidate will have strong written and verbal English skills, with GCSE's in Mathematics and English. A good understanding of Microsoft software such as Word, Excel and Outlook is also desirable.
  • Eligibility to live and work in the UK at the time of joining.
  • Candidates should be hardworking, flexible and conscientious.
  • Good timekeeping, a keen attitude to work and an ability to listen to, and follow instructions.
  • Strong work ethic and desiring to learn new skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence with requirement to drive vans and 4x4 vehicles.
  • Reasonable IT Skills.
  • Flexibility of working away from home and requirement to work out of hours on a project by project basis.
  • Five GCSE's grades 9-4 (A*- C) including Maths & English.
