REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor

WORK LOCATION: Seguin, Texas

SUMMARY

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for performing routine work in the repair and maintenance of emergency stand-by generators to ensure alternate power supply is available to GBRA facilities. This position helps maintain hydroelectric generation plants and multiple treated and raw water delivery systems including rights-of-way and serve as a relief control room operator as needed. This position helps perform emergency or scheduled maintenance and repairs dams, associated spill gates, canals and levees, pump stations, etc. This position will be responsible for welding and various maintenance projects at any GBRA facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Troubleshoots and repairs generator controls and engine related mechanical failures; and performs routine preventative maintenance, oil and filter changes and inspections on all standby generators.

• Maintains inventory of spare parts for the emergency generators and initiates procurement of replacement supplies and equipment as necessary; makes cost and material estimates; collects data for preventive maintenance system; maintains activity logs and completes work orders and reports.

• Maintain all tools and machinery, service vehicle, pressure testers, feeler gauges, power and hammer drills, pipe benders and welding tools.

• May perform maintenance and repairs to dams, powerhouses, substations, warehouses, storage sheds, canals, levees, canal headwork equipment, bridges, turbines, generators, switchgear, pumps, motors, raw water delivery systems, pipelines, rights-of-way and other miscellaneous structures and property.

• Perform on call duty on a rotating roster as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.

• Perform duties in a manner that is safe, efficient, and conducive to a good working atmosphere.

• Comply with the Safety Manual and all applicable policies and procedures.

• During times of unsettled weather, be available to perform emergency duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor, the Division Manager, or the Control Room Operator.

• Attend pertinent training classes as required.

• Perform other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

• Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical issues on diesel, natural gas and propane gen-sets.

• Ability to plan and organize daily work routine. Establishes priorities for the completion of work in accordance with sound time-management methodology.

• Ability to utilize a variety of shop tools and equipment to perform routine repair work of engines and equipment.

• Work weekends and nights when needed and respond with minimum delay to callouts and emergencies.

• Must be able to swim.

• Operate gas, electric, hydraulic, and hand tools with both hands.

• Possess familiarity with Microsoft products (Word, Excel and Outlook).

• Individuals working in this position will work inside powerhouses and pump stations, in and around water, and during emergencies, and can be called to duty any hour of the day or night.

• Ability to perform lay out, fabrication and welding with strong knowledge of various types of welding processes.

• Ability to determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements.

• This individual will also serve as a relief control room operator when needed. The control room is a 24 hour, 7-day, 52-week per year shift work position. Each regular control room operator works a 12-hour day shift and a 12-hour night shift on a rotating schedule that includes weekends and holidays. A relief operator will fill in any of these shifts when a regular operator is unable to work. During weekends, holidays, and on night shifts, the operator works alone, unsupervised, and must be capable of making critical decisions regarding raw water delivery systems, water and wastewater treatment plants, the hydroelectric generation system, and the needs of GBRA's customers.

• The permanent residence of all Hydro employees must be such that roadway travel time from home to 933 East Court Street takes no more than 45 minutes. This response time must be achieved without violating traffic laws.

EDUCATION/ LICENSES

Education:

• High School Diploma or GED.

Registrations and Licenses:

• Texas Driver's License (Commercial Driver's License is highly desirable).

• Acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.

• EGSA tech or other various certifications are a plus but not required.

EXPERIENCE

• Experience in Diesel engine or generator maintenance preferred.

• 2-3 years of welding experience preferred.

Work at elevated levels of over 50 feet on platforms, roofs, etc. Climb up and down vertical ladders up to 20 feet in length. Repeatedly pull up loads of up to 50 pounds with large rake from depths up to 20 feet. Repeatedly lift, load, and unload up to 50 pounds. Safely lift loads up to 50 pounds chest high. Hear bells, horns, alarms, and any other audio indicators of message or emergency while inside of an operating hydroelectric generating plant or raw water pump station.

Wear personal protection equipment as outlined in the employee Safety Manual such as half-mask respirator. Enter and work in confined spaces, as defined by OSHA. Perform basic first aid and CPR.

Employees must wear protective footwear in compliance with ANSI or ASTM standard. New employees are provided footwear in compliance with ANSI or ASTM standard. Replacement footwear is provided annually for qualifying employees.
