Role description:

Arcadis are excited to again be growing their Energy Networks & Renewables team. We are looking for talented Engineering professionals to join our team to work on a range of Electrical Transmission and Distribution projects with a focus on reshaping the electrical grid to achieve carbon net zero.

Working within our established Design & Engineering team, you will be responsible for undertaking electromagnetic transient studies including insulation coordination, transient recovery voltage, zero missing phenomena, circuit breaker switching, transformer energisation and more, playing a key role in the design of substations and other electrical assets.

Reporting to the team leader, you will be responsible for assisting in the delivery of project-related tasks to meet budget and contributing towards the achievement of the divisional business plan. As part of your role, you will be responsible for conducting risk analysis of the design and identify potential threats and risks. Using your expertise you will make recommendations on potential mitigation for any issues identified, or work with stakeholders to agree actions.

Role accountabilities:

Responsibilities of the role include:
  • Electromagnetic Transient Studies and analysis using the PSCAD software
  • Insulation coordination studies
  • Circuit breaker switching studies
  • Transient recovery voltage assessment
  • Project management of EMT projects to ensure they remain within budget and timescale constraints
  • Assistance in the creation of competitive proposals/quotations for new packages of work
  • Writing detailed technical reports detailing the results of studies

Qualifications & Experience:
  • Experience of electromagnetic transient studies
  • Familiar with power system modelling techniques, analysis and validation methodologies
  • EMT analysis using the industry analysis software package PSCAD
  • Suitable experience of common issues and standards associated with power networks up to 400 kV
  • Ability of communicating complex technical or commercial issues to peers or senior managers
  • Ability to develop working relationships quickly and effectively
  • Experience in writing clear and concise documentation
