Job Description Summary

GE Aerospace is a major manufacturer of aircraft engines and components partnering with the world's major aerospace companies covering commercial, business jet and military applications.

As aviation regulators move towards the full implementation of ICAO Annex 19, which emphasizes the importance of a systematic approach to managing safety, the role of the Safety Manager becomes increasingly crucial.

GE Aerospace Cheltenham are seeking a Safety Manager to assume the responsibilities for the further development, operation, and continuous improvement of our Safety Management System, ensuring that it meets or exceeds regulatory requirements and effectively manages safety risks on a day to day basis. Being the legally Nominated Post Holder, the Safety Manager serves as the primary point of contact for aerospace safety management issues within our organisation.

This role involves a significant level of responsibility, as the incumbent will ensure compliance with the regulations associated with the various approvals we hold. Therefore, the Safety Manager must have a deep understanding of aerospace regulations, and be able to navigate the complexities of safety management within the aerospace industry.

Given the paramount importance of safety in aerospace, the Safety Manager's role is critical to the success and reputation of GE Aerospace Cheltenham. In addition to ensuring regulatory compliance, they will also foster a safety culture that prioritises the well-being of our employees, our customers, our products and the broader community.

Job Description

The Safety Manager will provide safety expertise to assist all operating departments in achieving their safety obligations and goals., and will be responsible for:

• SMS program leadership during initial implementation

• Providing information and advice on safety matters to senior leadership

• Providing support and consultation on safety management to all departments

• Developing and maintain specific SMS guidance materials and/or requirements

• Conducting the day-to-day activities associated with the SMS

• Leading and operating the voluntary employee reporting system

• Approving safety risk management documents, as delegated

• Accepting certain levels of risk following suitable analysis

• Leading safety planning and monitoring

The Safety Manager shall also:

• Chair the Safety Review Board

• Serve as the liaison to our Regulators on safety issues

• Arrange safety training for all employees in line with the regulations.

• Maintain records of all aerospace safety related reports, incidents and accidents

• Conduct safety audits of all departments within our organisation

• Participate in investigating aerospace related incidents and accidents

• Conduct periodic audits of the SMS, operations, equipment and facilities of GE Aerospace Cheltenham and our sub-contractors

Required Qualifications
  • Major experience in safety management, safety planning, regulatory compliance and risk from either Aviation, Automotive or similar highly regulated sector company.
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate
  • Experience in Training & presenting to senior level employees
