We are hiring a Sr Systems Engineer - Embedded FW to develop systems requirements and architecture definition for embedded FW deployed in our range of cloud connected inverter products, and accessories. This position will be responsible for requirements analysis, architecture development, design, coding, debugging, documentation, and mentoring other team members.

What will you do?
  • Own functional requirements, architecture and interfaces of features that span across different Cloud and Embedded FW teams for residential energy management including solar, energy storage, electric vehicles, and other cutting-edge technologies.
  • Translate feature requirements into technical requirements and discrete decoupled module/component definitions that can be consumed by Embedded FW teams.
  • Architectural design of software blocks including block diagrams, flow charts, state machines, sequence diagrams etc.
  • Lead and oversee embedded FW modules validation on subsystem and end-to-end levels.
  • Be the key technical contact for marketing, product managers, code developers and systems engineers.
  • Participate in design and code review to ensure quality, avoid un-needed complexity, and advocate for clarity.
  • Key focus will be on but not limited to:
    • Embedded FW modules responsible for device management, settings management, FW upgrade.
    • Interfaces, data models between embedded FW modules.
    • Configuration management


What qualifications will make you successful for this role?

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, System Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role spanning multiple software teams.
  • 10+ years of hands-on embedded software or firmware development experience.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of the big picture, encompassing all elements of the communications architecture, certifications, and cybersecurity considerations.
  • Excellent grasp of cloud architectures and interfaces, with a proven ability to integrate cloud-based solutions into system designs.
  • Deep knowledge of C/C++ programming in embedded LINUX environment.
  • Applies rigorous documentation and development process.
  • Pragmatic approach to architecture design of software.
  • Highly determined individual who consistently follows through and completes tasks.
  • Ensures that constraints like time and manpower are thoroughly considered in both the design and execution of tasks.


Highly Desired
  • Experience with PV and Grid Tie Energy Storage system architecture and application
  • Knowledge of RTOS constructs including threads, scheduling, synchronization, and memory management.
  • Experience developing with an embedded RTOS like FreeRTOS, µC/OS, VxWorks, Neutrino, etc.
  • Proficiency with Python.
  • Experience in reviewing PCB schematics and microelectronic device datasheets.
  • Experience with performing low-level board debugging with oscilloscopes, DMMs, function generators, etc.
  • Experience with Test-driven development (e.g., JUnit, CppUTest, Gherkin).
  • State machine design and implementation (e.g., Simulink Stateflow, QP/C Framework).
  • Industrial communications standards such as IEC61850, Modbus, LIN bus, CAN bus/J1939, DNP3, or Ethernet/IP.

The compensation range for this full-time position, which includes base pay and short-term incentive, is CAD $107,000-$159,000 for candidates who are B.C. residents. Our salary ranges are determined by including roles of similar responsibility and level. Within the salary range, individual pay is determined by several factors including performance, knowledge, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Schneider Electric also offers an inclusive benefits package to support all of our employees such as flexible work arrangements, paid family leaves, pension matching, well-being programs, holidays & paid time off, and more.
