Bilfinger UK are looking for candidates to join the business as an apprentice in Pipe Welding/Inspector for 2024 Apprenticeship in take.

College based initially (1 year on day release) Gaining Welding Techniques, skills and background.
The Candidate will spend sufficient time to gain experience in various welding techniques and acceptance criteria with the goal of becoming coded in Welding Stainless and Carbon Steel.

The successful candidate will work with our current QA/QC inspector gaining experience of all aspects of Quality control, including Weld defects, visual acceptance, fabrication errors, understanding engineered drawings and Isometrics, dimensional checking and acceptable tolerances to various client specifications.

Training will be given in the following:

Building Weld Histories, Requesting and understanding various NDT techniques.

Compiling Life time Quality Records, Inspection and Test plans.

Understanding of Bilfinger quality procedures.

Understanding of Bilfinger Heath and safety procedures.

Been given training and gain experience in performing quality and safety field audits.

Safe Use of overhead crane and safe slinging and lifting

During Year 3 to 4, when considered suitably experienced, the employee will undergo PCN Level 2 Radiography Interpretation Exam.

Gain formal IOSH safety qualifications.

On successful completion of PCN Level 2, whilst gaining knowledge the employee, when ready will be put forward to take CSWIP 3.0 Welding Inspector qualification, moving onto CSWIP 3.1 Qualification before becoming and being recognised as A qualified Welding and Pipe Fabrication Inspector.

The candidate will need to be flexible:

1. Whilst initially being based at Ellesmere Port, the role aim will be to also provide cover where necessary on various Bilfinger sites throughout the UK.

2. With Unit 31 being a small but fluid team, the successful candidate will also be trained in the day to day running of a fabrication facility including understanding cut lists and assisting the team to meet tight schedules and deadlines, whilst understanding the importance of Quality control and Assurance.

The main aim will be to become a Pipe / Welding Quality inspector who has experience in welding and fabrication.

Goals and targets will be set out to the successful applicant

Qualifications Required
  • GCSE or equivalent (Grade 4 or better) in English Language and Mathematics

  • Individuals need to have good communication skills, both written and verbal, IT skills, number skills, analytical skills, demonstrate attention to detail, logical attitude and be a team player
  • Individuals must be able to demonstrate a willingness and passion to develop skills within industry, be hardworking, confident and organised
