The team provides Specialist Materials support across the Nuclear Submarines Business. The applicant should have extensive expertise in materials corrosion, specifically the mechanisms associated with PWR-based Nuclear Power Plant degradation.

This is a predominantly office-based role requiring substantial interaction with engineers and Specialists from a range of disciplines, internal and external customers, and sub-contractors. International and national travel will be required in this role.

What you'll be doing:

In this role you will be expected to assume a broad range of responsibilities including:
  • Developing others in Corrosion technology through coaching / mentoring
  • Collaborating across both the Submarines and wider Rolls-Royce Business on Corrosion and Materials-related issues; to maximise Business benefit.
  • Leading the Business's Corrosion strategy, deploying new technologies and processes to better understand and mitigate plant corrosion and generate value for the Business.
  • Proactive & pragmatic technical problem solving, using technical judgement to deliver rapid and cost-effective solutions.
  • Representing Rolls-Royce externally at International Conferences and Committees.
  • Striving for simplification of tools and methods, using simple and effective communication.

As the ideal candidate, you will:
  • Preferably be educated to Degree level or equivalent in a related discipline, for example; Materials Engineering, Metallurgy or Chemistry.
  • have Relevant industrial experience in an engineering environment, specifically in relation to nuclear or power plant applications and corrosion, which will be highly beneficial.
  • have excellent inter-personal skills
  • have a proven track record in solving complex technical problems
  • have the ability to mentor / coach others

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don't currently already have this in place.

Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets, you must hold a UK nationality. Any dual nationals will require additional scrutiny and background checks prior to commencing work with RRSL.
