This role will cover sites in the UK - Midlands and Southwest England.

The Solar & Battery Storage Technician is a field-based role performing operations and maintenance tasks on utility-scale battery storage plants and ground mounted solar PV plants.You will ensure the multiple sites achieve outstanding levels of safety, quality and performance at a cost that meets operational budget, as part of an industry-leading team of renewable energy specialists.
As a Site Maintenance Technician you will contribute to the smooth and efficient running of the Solar Farm asset by undertaking a variety of field duties associated with routine inspections, service and maintenance of solar structure and general maintenance. You will support the Solar and BESS Electrical Technician with electrical and mechanical works as required to ensure an effective and efficient electrical installation and operations. Contributing to a safe workplace through high level of maintenance.
A company vehicle, smart phone and laptop/tablet will be provided. About the role

  • Reporting to the Solar & Storage O&M Site Manager, you will:
  • Follow and manage health and safety requirements and help to maintain and improve safety standards across the sites
  • Undertake planned inspection and maintenance according to legal, technical, manufacturer and contractual requirements
  • Inspect, test, maintain, and troubleshoot solar PV & battery storage electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Keep accurate maintenance records and compile reports
  • Keep in close communication with the O&M office and team functions
  • Travel between the sites and offices
  • Occasionally work away from home for training courses and travel to other sites for up to 1 week at a time using the RWE accommodation and subsistence allowances
  • Ensure landscape management as outlined in the Habitat Management and Monitoring Plan (HMMP) in order to maintain the enhanced and created habitats for Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG)
  • Occasionally assist with ground maintenance, cleaning or mechanical work
  • Induct and manage sub-contractors, ensure their safe working and undertake quality checks on their work
  • Other tasks determined by the role

Job Requirements and experience

  • Full UK driving licence
  • First aid qualifications
  • Health & Safety qualifications (e.g. IOSH Managing Safely, SMSTS, CSCS)
  • Understanding of Risk Assessments and Method Statements
  • Working with equipment vendors to support diagnosis of faults
  • Experience working remotely
  • Solar PV installation and O&M experience
  • Battery storage installation and O&M experience is desirable

Advantageous, but not essential

  • Good knowledge and understanding of solar PV technology
  • Good knowledge and understanding of HVAC, fire protection, security systems is desirable
  • Good knowledge and understanding of battery storage technology, although training can be given in this area
  • Principles of High Voltage operations desirable
