Job summary

Energy is a substantial portion of our carbon footprint and our budget.

We are looking for an experienced and committed individual to join a dedicated and enthusiastic team.

As the Energy Manager you will be professionally, technically and managerially responsible for Energy Management.

The Energy Manager will also be responsible for regulatory schemes such as UKETS, grant applications and coordinating EPBR compliance such as DECs and EPCs.

The Trust's Utility budgets total circa £25m in FY 2024/5. The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day energy management of these utilities with a focus on utility cost, consumption, carbon reduction and recharging the Trust's tenants supported by the Energy and Carbon Data Officer.

The Trust's Energy Manager will have lead responsibility in providing specialist expertise on all aspects of, energy and water management, be responsible for undertaking energy surveys, inspections, development and delivery of action plans, plant surveys, preparation of design and specifications.

The Trust currently has a Combined Heat and Power plant that is managed as an Energy Performance Contract with guaranteed savings and KPI penalties. The contract is currently being extended to include a 2MW Heat Pump system and replacement of steam and HTHW systems with LTHW, as part of the Trusts decarbonisation strategy. This role would oversee that contract, to ensure contractual obligations are delivered.

Essential

  • Degree in Engineering, Science or Energy or related discipline or equivalent experience e.g. Management NVQ 4/5
  • Must have additional post-graduate level knowledge either through a relevant Masters' qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Good knowledge of energy efficient working practices Demonstrable track record of working effectively within and through multi-disciplinary teams. Substantial full-time specialist experience gained from working in a complex multi-site environment.
  • Significant demonstrable experience in energy management.
  • A high level of understanding of building services and centralised plant including CHP, boilers, HVAC, steam system etc.
  • A high level of understanding of energy compliance issues, current legislation and mandatory requirements and experience of managing energy legislative programs including UK ETS, EPBR
  • Development and implementation of energy management systems, strategies/policies within a complex organisation.
  • Experience of utility contracts, tariff negotiation and budget setting / management.
  • Experience of fiscal metering, sub-metering strategies for data quality and granularity, Metering software platforms.
  • Experience of supporting M&E disciplines within project teams for capital projects and refit/refurbs.
  • Good understanding of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Guidance and Standards
  • Able to demonstrate the analytical skills and judgement required to identify/diagnose a range of defects and failures in relation to specific systems/equipment and what actions to take.
  • Communicates highly complex or highly sensitive (commercial in confidence) information including use of negotiating skills and persuasive/motivational skills (in order to deliver appropriate performance levels from staff/contractors).

  • Member of relevant healthcare or engineering institutes, i.e. IHEEM, HEFMA, CIBSE, IET, CIOB etc. Chartered Engineer Recognised EMA Energy Manager IVMVP Certified Chartered Energy Manager (Energy Institute) Member of the Energy Institute Efficiency improvement training, i.e. Lean / Six Sigma BREEAM Assessor
  • IVMVP Certified
  • Chartered Energy Manager (Energy Institute)/Recognised EMA Energy Manager
  • Experience in working in a similar role, e.g. in the - NHS.
  • Previous experience of working with or implementing an energy management system certified to ISO 50001:2018 (and recertification)
