Position Summary

This position works under direct supervision. The Pipefitter Apprentice will assist in the installation of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in multi and single-family new construction. This is a safety sensitive position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist installs all types of HVAC equipment including replacement of existing, remodel and new installations in a commercial or industrial environment.
  • Assist with installs and modify duct systems, piping systems, control wiring and other HVAC related components.
  • Help fabricate, assemble, install, and repair all types of HVAC-related materials and equipment.
  • Communicate and work alongside customers and other construction trades.
  • Assist inspecting jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
  • Maintain inventory of company-owned tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Assist with installs of all types of condensate drains, line sets, duct work, and flues.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective processes, completion of projects and smooth operation of department.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Must have at least 2 years experience in the industry
  • HVAC Trade School degree and OSHA 10-hour training are a plus.

Required Skill, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Must have a current Drivers License and reliable transportation.
  • Must meet attendance standards and comply with late/absence notification procedures.
  • Must be able to pass drug and background check.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong believer in Safety.
  • Demonstrate basic understanding of English (ability to read, speak and write) while performing work-related tasks.
  • Knowledge of sheet metal duct installation.
  • Knowledge of HVAC Systems
  • Demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude.

May work inside or outside. Possible exposure to hot and cold temperatures, in all-weather elements such as rain, heat, cold and snow. This position also requires work at extreme heights, in areas that are under construction, or in restricted areas such as a switchgear room, manhole, utility tunnel, crawl space, or attic, in confined spaces, and on slippery or uneven surfaces; works on ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, in ditches and excavations; works in and around single and multi-story buildings with all exposures typical of a heavy construction site, including portable sanitary facilities.

  1. Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull and reach overhead.
  2. Lift 51 pounds, routinely. Constantly move about on the feet.
  3. Climb ladders of all types.
  4. Complete full day assignments involving overhead work.
  5. Must be able to make transition from employee parking area or street into construction work areas and to access all levels of the building, even if the only means of access is by O.S.H.A. approved site construction ladder or stairs still under construction, but acceptable for use.
  6. Must be capable of securing tools and materials from storage areas to complete assigned tasks.
  7. Possess good vision, normal or corrected. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision to discern color coded wires, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  8. Possess good hearing, normal or corrected.
  9. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest) at all times.
  10. Must be able to work 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week, and overtime as required and night shifts, as needed. This position requires flexible work hours. In order to get a project completed on time, this position is often required to work overtime, weekends, and night shifts.
  11. Must be able to work in the presence of customers and their representatives with little or no interference or disruption to the customer while maintaining a professional and courteous image.
