Situated on the eastern side of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and headquartered in Wylie, the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) serves one of the largest and fastest-growing regions in the country. Residents have their choice of over 150 communities spread across the area and enjoy a median home sale price of about $385,000, the seventh most affordable among America's top 20 metro areas. NTMWD is a regional wholesale provider of essential services in one of the country's fastest-growing areas. NTMWD serves more than two million people in up to 80 communities with drinking water, 1.4 million with wastewater collection and treatment, and 930,000 with waste management services. It has an annual operations budget of over $670 million and employs nearly 900 hard-working professionals.
NTMWD is managed by a board of directors, its members appointed by each of the 13 member cities, who work diligently to ensure the vitality and success of the region by ensuring the cities have the essential services they need to thrive. All leaders in their own communities, District board members have historically brought with them an array of professional experience in banking, law, engineering, construction, science, education, and civic leadership. Supplying water to North Texas communities is how the District got its start - and decades after 10 neighboring cities recognized the benefit of pooling resources to obtain water rights and build the infrastructure necessary to provide water for thousands of residents, the District now serves safe, reliable drinking water to over 2.2 million people across 2,200 square miles.
Reporting to the Assistant Deputy-Water Treatment and Conveyance and overseeing roughly 130 employees, the Water Treatment System Manager is responsible for all matters of Water System operations, including the maintenance and administration of its facilities. The regional water system includes seven water treatment plants with a capacity of up to 946 MGD, utilizing ozonation as the primary disinfection process for treatment. These plants currently receive water from seven primary sources - Lavon Lake, Chapman Lake, Lake Texoma, Bois d'Arc Lake, Lake Tawakoni, and a nearly 2,000-acre wetland that receives flows from the Trinity River.
NTMWD is seeking a dedicated and experienced water treatment professional to serve as its next Water Treatment System Manager. A bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, chemistry, or a related field is required. Candidates should also have ten (10) years of progressive experience managing water operations, water engineering, water treatment, or public works, and an established record of working effectively with governing boards or councils, state and federal agencies, and public groups. Possession of a PE license and a TCEQ Water License are preferred, and private sector experience will be considered. The selected candidate must also hold a valid Texas driver's license throughout their tenure.
