Job Description:

Task Characteristics
  • Analyze energy use reports to identify abnormalities in facility operations (lighting schedules, HVAC setpoints, setbacks, etc.).
  • Conduct surveys of store conditions and equipment as needed to create a database for energy control activities.
  • Create measurement tools and programs to monitor energy usage for the purpose of identifying sites requiring mediation, monitoring success of energy initiatives, and providing historical data for the Company's energy procurement activities.
  • Identify, propose, research, and evaluate the use of new technologies and ideas to control energy usage within our working environment; monitor results.
  • Assist in development and distribution of energy reports.
  • Interrogate Energy Management Systems (EMS) to identify deficiencies and implement corrective action; maintain current TOD schedules.
  • Develop training plans to promote energy control at store level.
  • Assist in startups of EMS, to include verification of input points, output points, set points, and strategies. This includes site visits to verify EMS was installed and programmed to company specifications.

Knowledge Characteristics
  • Knowledge of energy management tools used to evaluate energy management projects and monitor resultant savings.
  • Knowledge of refrigeration systems, including electrical and control devices.
  • Knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic instruments common to the trade.
  • Knowledge of food safety practices and regulations for the supermarket industry.
  • Knowledge and practice of safe work habits, including knowledge of MSDS, OSHA, equipment safety, and tool safety.
  • Knowledge of commercial utility billing.
  • Knowledge of new and emerging trends in the area of energy efficiency.
  • Knowledge of energy conversion calculations.

Social Characteristics
  • Distribute appropriate reports to other Associates or groups for remediation.
  • Schedule events and meetings with regard to the energy policy.
  • Assist in the training of associates on the energy policy (Energy Awareness Program).
  • Consult with associated departments to improve energy performance of new store/remodel designs.
  • Interact with other associates and vendors in person or via telephone and e-mail.

Contextual Characteristics
  • Ability to work under pressure of time, without direct supervision,
  • Available for occasional overtime work and/or emergencies.
  • Significant portions of the workday may be spent on the computer.

Principal Accountabilities:
  • Commission EMS modifications on small projects where this function is not outsourced.
  • Override interior/exterior lighting per store as required for relamps and inventories.
  • Verify functionality of controls and accuracy of setpoints on EMS startups and recommissionings.
  • Monitor password lock down, set point verification, and overrides, report incidents to appropriate associates for corrective action.
  • Submit a weekly written activity report to the Energy and Sustainability Manager.
  • Monitor Demand response events to assure adequate curtailment.
  • Provide notification to store management of all rebate or incentive credits issued to stores.
  • Assist with the development of financial pro forma for proposed energy projects.
  • Performs other duties as directed, and as required for the execution of the above listed responsibilities.
