Water & Gas GIS Engineering Technician - $36,353.50 - $43,624.20
Maintains and supports the Water & Gas Geographic Information System (GIS). Provides GIS relation databases and training and provides technical support for the GPS equipment. Coordinates and communicates with contractors on GIS projects and GPS survey work by maintaining attribute code lists and exchanging GIS and AutoCAD related files via ftp servers. Interacts with other employees and City of Danville staff in other City departments.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED supplemented by six months to one year of post-secondary study or training: e.g. vocational, business, technical school; and basic computer skills and Microsoft software experience. No job experience is required.

- Maintains Water and Gas GIS Geo databases and related geography importing from GPS equipment using Leica Geo Office software and stored on City's network folders; updating corresponding chronological project list and adding the GPS data to update the GIS mapping system using ESRI Arc Map and Arc Catalog automated mapping software system; and sharing data with consultants via ftp to ensure the Water & Gas distribution sheets are updated.
- Completes hardware and software maintenance on GPS system by working with Leica GPS vendor and network staff to resolve all equipment repairs and network issues; ensuring that the GPS reference station is operational daily to work with the filed units; maintaining code lists for GPS survey work; and checking connections and cleaning equipment periodically such as screens and external casing.
- Coordinates with contractor on projects and GPS survey work by reviewing data contents, project maps, design or construction to determine if more GPs information is needed and for clarification of any data and mapping issues.
- Prepares customized GIS related maps using ESRI Arc Map software for GIS data requests and provides GIS information for staff, consultants and other City departments.
