The Analog Garage is a high-energy, fast-paced, advanced R&D team within the CTO Office of Analog Devices (ADI) at our downtown Boston location. Our mission is to empower Analog Devices by pioneering breakthrough technology. Our innovation funnel spans exciting domains including green energy, healthcare, artificial intelligence, human-machine interfaces, advanced sensors and more.

We're seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Business Discovery Manager to join our team. This role will lead business strategy formation and drive commercial execution across our energy sector programs and will be expected to synthesize, communicate, and execute strategic business plans for deep technical exploration projects.

We're looking for applicants with strong experience in the electrical grid industry, and experience with developing businesses around smart grid sensors and grid software will be especially valuable. The ideal candidate would also have knowledge of related green energy industries such as renewables, carbon capture, clean energy production, hydrogen, nuclear, biofuels, electric power generation and distribution, and energy equipment and services.

For this high-impact role, the ideal candidate has a dynamic, open, and strategic approach to understanding the emerging needs that will create meaningful change to the energy sector. They're an enterprise leader, working cross-organizationally and enthusiastically to enable the transformation to a cleaner world through breakthrough technologies. The successful candidate will drive business strategy and decision-making in all phases of the innovation funnel: customer discovery, market research, hypothesis testing during early R&D, MVP definition and go-to-market strategy. They will work closely with Garage researchers to coevolve new concepts for breakthrough technology and decide which features or performance attributes are most likely to determine commercial success.

Many of our projects are done in tight collaboration with internal ADI business units (BUs). Building solid relationships with these teams and understanding their business, applications, and customers are critical to the Garage's success. In many cases, the Business Discovery Manager be working closely with these groups to align on commercialization strategy and paths to market.

The Key Responsibilities for this role include:

  • Researching and identifying emerging industry, technology and application trends

  • Assessing the competitive landscape and how it is evolving

  • Conducting customer discovery to understand emerging customer needs and applications

  • Defining and testing our value proposition and how we sustain an advantage

  • Crafting product specifications and working with the technical team to execute

  • Sustaining close collaborations across Analog Devices' vertical and emerging business units.

  • Initiating partnership engagements and maintaining great partner relationships

  • Building strong relationships across the energy ecosystem to gather insights that inform strategic decisions

  • Creating and implementing go-to-market strategy

  • Developing strategies to test market and business plans early and often for our early-stage programs in the electrification and grid modernization sectors.

  • Defining and tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success and impact of energy related programs.

  • Mentoring junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical / power engineering ; with advanced degree preferred

  • MBA or equivalent professional experience with 15+ years industry experience in the energy sector with strategic roles involving new technology adoption.

  • 7+ years with market development and product deployment in the distribution grid sector

  • A deep understanding of what it takes to deploy hardware and software solutions onto the grid, including, ideally, an understanding of regulatory requirements.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think creatively and strategically.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, passionate about collaboration and teamwork.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire to drive a culture of innovation, excellence and agility.

For positions requiring access to technical data, Analog Devices, Inc. may have to obtain export licensing approval from the U.S. Department of Commerce - Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the U.S. Department of State - Directorate of Defense Trade Controls.
